Examine the upgrade prices closely, they are amazing.

Ordered the Ultrapak and the 20 bonus pak for incredible price listed.

Ryszard, the Loops function is so brand new it still has the plastic wrap stuck to it. From what I understand right now you're fine with either wav's or wma files at the standard CD quality 16/44. 24 bit won't work at the moment. It will handle mp3 but it was mentioned that mp3's have a slight and unpredictable delay before the content starts so it's ok for special effect sounds but not actual music because the timing could be off but wma's don't have that problem. They are working right now on other formats and expect them to work ok. Stay tuned.

Also the tempo/time stretching functions seem to work at least as good as it does in Acid with the added bonus of being able to use your loops as you do an RT in that Biab will automatically handle key sigs and chord changes. Again this is so new nobody has had a chance to really wring it out yet but it sure sounds exciting to me.

Loops Set 1 is included in the Bonus 10-PAK, and every purchase of Band-in-a-Box for Windows (except the $29 upgrade) includes this Bonus PAK.

Enjoy!

I'm jumping from 2010.5 to 2012. IIRC, there was something new in the 2011 version regarding the size of the Real Tracks files. IIRC, again, the new format results in a much smaller file.

Given that, I'm wondering what the best installation strategy would be? I'd certainly like to free up some space on the drive that this is on. Does anyone know the advised way to install this?

Perhaps a link to installations instructions, if there is one? I've been looking since I ordered mine a few hours ago. I'm doing the electronic download for now, but may just wait until the drive comes in. There's no 'read Me" type of file on the download page.

I would advise that you call PG Music Support to talk you through this one. However, I'll take a crack at it.

Yes, 2011 introduced the Elastique algorithm, and as a consequence, they needed only one-third the previous number of files for RealTracks. There is a menu choice in the Preferences, RealTracks to shrink the files. I'm not in front of BIAB so I can't tell you the exact wording, but you could do this first. It would dramatically reduce the size of BIAB on your hard drive, to about 40% of what it used to be. Then you are prepared to install the new version. Note that this should ONLY be done on a machine fast enough. Again, PG Music could advise better.

Yes, in the new versions of Biab there's something in the Real Tracks properties window I think (can't remember for sure where it is now) that allows you to delete some of the RT's that are no longer required in the new version. That reduces your RT directory by around 60%. The reason for that is the newer algorithm that handles the tempos. The old RT's had three versions each to help with tempo stretching and those are not necessary any more. All the newer RT's that you may get don't have those extra files. I may not have the details right but Support or someone here can explain it.

Funny, I was writing this at the office and then took a phone call and Matt beat me to it. You know you're in a good forum when the forum members are fighting each other to help answer a question

Great, something else to install on my new homebrew PC (although BIAB, PTPA, and RB never needed more than my 3.2 GHZ Pentium 4 to run smooth as silk. Actually that PC even ran apps like Sonar X1 Producer without issue - upgraded HW for other reasons) and I mean that in a good way. Also looks like more than a few new features/functions to try out - hopefully I'll get to those in few weeks.

Now to try and get it all downloaded before wife finds out

Thanks for the response, guys. I appreciate it.

My hard drive would appreciate that space for sure.

I'd better remember to freeze any tracks that I might be really attached to if I want to re-generate an older project with the new software.

You can freeze them for safety, but I would be surprised if you did not like the way they would sound now a lot better.

@CountryTrash:go for a download option. It takes a while depending on your internet connection, but you don't have any hassle with customs. It works here in Switzerland, so it should work for you.

Freezing wouldn't make a difference, since the BB MGU files don't contain the audio anyway... Just pointers to the audio files.
The old songs will work (frozen or not) after you remove the un-needed files. Thousands of people have done this. The end result is better audio quality, especially at stretched tempos.

Peter, In a past wish request, I ask for slow smooth Paul Franklin steel solos. You did that plus western swing. That was enough for me to reach for the plastic, but you matched that with tasty Brent Mason solos to compliment Paul Franklin. Great job. I also bought the extra country piano package. e.l.c

Really? Did not know that. Where are the frozen tracks stored? Can I cause the frozen tracks to be stored in the same folder as my MGU file, and is there any advantage in doing that?

I just ordered the 2012 ultraplus Pak. I have the 80GB 2009.5 drive and the 160GB drives for 2010 and 2011 -- I am getting quite the collection. I still got the USB drive for 2012, I didn't really want to download 40GB of data!

At least I am starting to use the older drives as external backup drives here and there. They gotta come in handy sometime in the future.

Looking forward to it -- I got a lot to go through since I skipped the 2011.5 version.

The thing is you probably don't need to download 40gb of data. That is probably the size of the whole hard drive.

The upgrade path from 2011-2012 would probably have been a lot less than 15gb of data though PG don't have the exact figures as yet.

And you would have saved on shipping, maybe still time if you wish to contact them and ask about it.

DANG... that's a lot of stuff to download. Is there way to batch DL all these files so I can walk away and not have to initialize 57 separate downloads?

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
