I purchased BIAB EverythingPAK with RealBand 2011 last year and am interested in upgrading to the newer version, but is the upgrade cost really $159? Am I reading this correctly? Even though I spent $$$ for the same package less than one year ago?

Thanks in advance,

Pete

I think it's $139 (ya don't need the video tutorials again??) ...and you can save the additional $15 shipping with the download-only option- then copy the new version over on the old flash drive as a backup.

Ya get what ya pay for

There are 200 new realtracks (100 in 2011.5 and 100 in 2012) -- I would assume that the creation of those RT's are the major contributors to the cost. If you don't want the newest realtracks, you can just upgrade the program for between $29 and $49. 2011.5 --> 2012 is $29, but you might have to get the pro pak to go from 2011 to 2012 ($49) -- http://www.pgmusic.com/bbwin.packages.htm

pluspak upgrade $99 download inc realtracks.

As PG has mentioned; the $139 upgrade includes another harddrive. That's worth some of it right there.. for the extra $40 you get a pre-loaded 160 gig hard drive (shipped to your door).

Yep, I got the hard-drive with the last up-grade, and it still has quite a bit of room left on it, which is why I was looking for a software-only upgrade, but didn't see that option.

The $99 will not get the new RTs from the 2011.5 upgrade! Need the full $139 for all RTs. There is also no discoust for the HD, it is only the $15 saved on shipping. Right??

Ahh, good point, he has 2011, not 2011.5
So for the little saved that hard drive is the way to go.
I used the new drive to update the old drive, and thus have a good backup.

There is a lot of work involved in the recordings and creation of each realtrack, the musicians hired are first class studio musicians, and is easy to see that "translating" their performances intro actual Realtracks requires many hours, and this cost money. In adittion, there are many great Virtual Instruments over there (some of them are really great, did you try, for example "Funk Guitarist" from Native Instruments?), but for me each "Realtrack set" is a new "Virtual instrument" in its own right, so with each BIAB upgrade I add a lot of new "Virtual Instruments" to my collection at the price of just one, plus a new and better engine. Definitely, BIAB is a bargain, at least to me. Just my point of view

BIAB 2024, latest build.

I've reached a point in life where time is more important than money. (You can always get more money, but we get a finite amount of time on the planet)

Given the choice of spending hours that I'll never get back downloading files, or paying a little more to get a pre-installed package that's portable and can be moved from one computer to another... man, that's an easy choice.

I use the old drives as:

1) really high capacity thumb drives. Ya never know when you might need to move huge amounts of data from one system to another.

2) I also use them as supplemental drives to store MP3s or other files that I may want to move some day.

3) And also they are useful to store finished BIAB projects. That way, if your studio computer is not the same one you use for gigs, you can easily move the same projects back and forth between the two

I hear ya, but after a while you can have Too Many Flashdrives.

But here is the point. The Flashdrive is actually free since the $139 is the same for the 2011 - 2012 upgrade with or without it. The only savings is shippng ($15) (..am I being petty to even suggest that the download should be reduced a bit since there is no HD?).

This year I opted to save the shipping. Just don't even want to store another BIAB HD - I have 2010 and 2011 HD's) and a host of other options for backing up files and giging.

The download time was actually no impact as once the download manager is installed and running the 6 - 8 hours of download was done while I slept.

Hmm. What does $139 get you in the land of software these days?

You don't have to upgrade every year (I certainly don't), but I can't think of any software that gives me as much joy for so little money.

On studying things some more, I think I'll wait for some realtrack piano blues. Again, thanks for the discussion all!

I purchased the audiophile version of BIB and if I want to ugrade to just one real track set I have to buy the hard drive with everything on it. I can't understand in this day and age why PG Music can't not just offer one audiophile real track set for download. Yeah, I know there large files compared to the compressed version but then, so what. I've downloaded 32 gigs of sampled music in about an hour or so. I don't get it. Is it that there server can't handle this. Sure would be nice if someone from PG would take time to comment on this issue. I don't think I'm the only audiophile version owner here. So, to download a compressed version of a real track set sells for $29, right, so why not charge $49 for the audiophile version of this real track set to cover the extra bandwidth. So for me, I upgrade the software plus one real track set turns out a lot cheaper then $250 after shipping and taxes for the hard drive version. I don't know, make sence or not?????.

Love BIB withe real track sets. Nothing in this class can touch it. I want to support PG music and ugrade twice yearly to support there effort in providing great stuff, but it's costing me $500 a year, this I don't understand.

All the best folks.

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
