Hi,

I'm currently running Biab 2011 Everything Pak. On the upgrade page it lists an upgrade of $49 to go to 2012 Pro and an upgrade of $159 to go to the 2012 Everything Pak....

My question is: If I already have the "Everything Pak" for 2011... I'm assuming that I can't just get the 2012 Pro upgrade... and still have the functionality of the "Everything Pak"... in other words if I have the 2011 Everything Pak my only option is to upgrade to the 2012 Everything Pak... Is this correct?

Also.. If I get the 2012 Everything Pak on a new external drive .. then I would need to manually transfer my working files over from the existing 2011 drive to the new 2012 drive... (?) or just run them both and the program would find the files on the original drive...(?)

Thanks, Happy Holidays Everybody!

Hello Bob,

Happy holidays! What package you decide to go with should depend on what add-ons you want.

If you get the 2012 Pro package, you won't get any of the new RealTracks, just the new functions available in 2012. You'll still have your EverythingPAK 2011 RealTracks/Drums. So if you only want the new program features like the ability to add a different VST/DX instrument on each track, but don't want the new RealTracks then you can go with this package.

If you want to have all the new RealTracks then you can get the UltraPlusPAK or EverythingPAK 2012 packages. These packages are complete, they come fully installed with all RealTracks. You can just run it off the new drive.

As always, all details are on our packages page: http://www.pgmusic.com/bbwin.packages.htm

Feel free to give us a call on our sales line if you want to talk it over. 1-800-268-6272

Will

If you just get the Pro upgrade, you'd be missing out on the 202 RealTracks that have been made since 2011 (2011.5 had 101, and 2012 has 101 more).

So if you want to still have "everything", then the option would be the Everything Pak hard drive, and that is the hard drive option.

(if you get the Ev Pak Hard Drive, it has everything you need, and the old hard drive is not needed any more. You won't be updating anything on the old drive - and it would likely become a 'doorstop.' Of course if you made some songs and saved them to it, then transfer those to a different drive.

Have Fun!

If you only get the Pro Pak you won't get all the new RealTracks produced since the 2011 version. The best option in my opinion is to upgrade to the UltraPlus Pak. That will give you all the RTs and all the new functionality. The only thing you won't get is the video tutorials (which are available online I believe) and the various lessons and some soloists. But you will have most of that already. You can get the UltraPlus Pak upgrade for $139 if memory serves.

The best way is to upgrade your previous portable HD. Simply connect the new drive and install it over top of your 2011 version. Then keep the new HD as a backup.

Happy Holidays to you too.

Thats what I figured ... thank you!

While I'm here... on the subject of VSTs...

I've been reading about recording, getting a crash education... I'm at the dangerous and mistake prone level as far as recording knowledge...

So with 2012 I can load - VST plugins... That means anything that is listed as a VST plugin will just load right into Biab 2012..(?)

I'm looking at some different products and some come with their own Kontakt player...

So then from within 2012 I could load up a VST that had its own version of Kontakt and run the VST just like I could by loading it up into a DAW like Reaper as an example..(?)

Said another way... If I can load a VST plugin into a Daw then I should be able to use it with 2012...(?) Do I have that right?

Thanks,...

I had 2011.5 Everything pak on a USB drive. Would have cost me $159+30 shipping to go to 2012 everything pak.
I found the cheapest way was to get the $99 plus pak upgrade and update my "old" USB drive from 2011.5 to 2012(saving $90)

That's how it works for me. I was playing around with Kontakt just last night and all was working. Also, the Garritan products that PG Music sell use the Kontakt engine to drive them and work fine with BIAB.

Noel

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
