Hi,
I have downloaded the latest version. I can import midi files and all plays as it should in the tracks window. However even if I have not altered anything when I try to save the song to a wave file all I get at the other end is 1 random track and parts of another. This happens on all midi file songs I have, including the sample one that came installed.

Cannot save as an Mp3 either as my plarer comes up with "cannot play".

I have a friend with the 2010 version and he can't make out the problem..

Converting individual tracks to wave or mp3 works ok as the file has them all and can be played back ok seperately.

I have read the tutorial and the setup notes and as far as I can see it is all set up correctly.

Am using the DXi synth that came with the programme so that nothing is different.

Have a new Win XP Pro PC and all is working well.

Anyone help or am I going to have to ask for a refund????

Hi,

Which command are you using to save the song? The one you want is in the AUDIO drop down menu and is MERGE AUDIO AND DXi TRACKS TO STEREO WAVE FILE. This may seem a strange choice if you don't have any audio tracks, but it should work. If this is what you're doing already, get back to us and we'll think again.

Hi Rog,

Yes that is the command I am using.I have tried them all with no luck.
In fact I have checked everything over twice so far , even reinstalled the program but although I am doing all that I should following the instructions in the tutorials and user manual to set up and operate still no luck....somewhere somehting is not right with this. A single track song is ok and as I said previously it will merge one of the tracks and a bit of another (odd notes are dropped out in each bar) in a multi track song.

Hi Lauri,

I agree with rharv, check the solo function, but also check the polyphony limit on Coyote. To do this, open the DXi dialogue for Coyote and right click on an instrument channel. One of the options is for the polyphony limit and you need to make sure that you have enough notes available to play all the tracks. On PT2010 this defaults to 100 but it might be different on your version.

Thanks guys,
Still no luck. The 5 track midi I am trying merges to wave to play channel 1 and 1 or 2 notes only from each bar of channel 2 and all the other channels are mute despite being ticked green in the track boxes.

All play ok in track mode; saving each channel seperately in mp3 or wave works fine also; just not together.

Also merging as an mp3 file doenst work either.???

I expect you've done this already, but in the MIDI drivers box have you got Coyote listed as the default synth and checked the box to re-route midi playback to the default synth?

Thanks ROG,

I have set the obvious ones as per the instructions in the user manual, including what you suggest.

The tracks all play back fine in the PT track mode. Only have a problem mergeing to Wave and Mp3.

Mp3 doesnt work at all and I suspect this is related .

Wave picks up one channel out of many and a few of the notes in each bar of one other- thats all.

Tried different Midis and even the ones in PT sample file. Same problem.

This isn't ideal, but as a work-around you could try converting each midi track to audio by going to the Tracks window and right clicking on a track. You can then select AUTO CONVERT INDIVIDUAL MIDI TRACK TO AUDIO TRACK. If it does this ok, you can do the same for the other tracks and then try merging the audio to a wave file. It would, at least, be useful to know if it will merge audio.

Still thinking about this one! In the midi drivers panel, try de-selecting all the output drivers. Suprisingly, you don't need any selected to playback DXi or VST synths. When you get the prompt to continue anyway, hit yes. If there's any conflict going on it might sort it. It's just a shot in the dark, but it's worth a try.

ROG jostled my memory;

For weird rendering issues try using MSWavetable Synth as the MIDI out driver when using a DXi synth. It seems like it shouldn't matter since it is getting re-routed, but support has said this has fixed some weird issues for people.

ROG and rharv,
Thank you guys so much for your attention and trouble.

It is a werid one but I am a real newbie at all this- I can play grade 5 trumpet and am getting bored playing by myself!!So this is an extension for me, esp.the software stuff.

I have tried what you suggested and found that MSWavetable Synth as the MIDI out driver doesn't work at all but Midi Mapper does.

However using none of these as suggested works ok.I suspect therefore that it may be a conflict with my PC sound card although all tests are showing its ok.

I have downloaded Coyote Forte Softsynth from PG Music as a demo and guess what? Using it as my defalut synth solves the problem and sounds better. I can now megre to WAV although not mp3 - I will deal with this issue later direct with PG.

I am not happy that their bundled synths don't work , also the Roland VSC that I bought at the same time from them doesn't either. I am waiting for the CD to arrive as it may be a file download issue. I will try for a credit on the registering of the Coyote Forte after my time is up.

Cheers

VSC doesn't work on 64 bit systems; not PGMusic's fault, Roland stopped supporting it.
Weird that Wavetable doesn't work.

Forte is a cost effective alternative.

Pleased that we've sorted out at least some of the problem. Forte is brilliant for the money - the strings in particular are as good as my Edirol Orchestral which is more than five times the price.

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
