Hi everybody ! I'm a newbie in Mac stuff though I use BIAB since Atari ;;; But I can't manage to use Halion Sonic as a synth in BIAB 2011.5 . Looking for a good soul to guide me with the procedure. Thanks in advance.

Pretty easy to do if there is a standalone version.
- Open Audio MIDI Setup (in the Applications/Utilities folder) - make sure the IAC MIDI driver is online (double click it, and make sure the "online" box is checked) - note the name of the IAC busses while you are there. - Launch BIAB and select "Core MIDI" form the MIDI menu. - set the MIDI output to the name of the IAC bus you saw in the IAC driver box - Launch the standalone Halion, and set it's MIDI input to the same bus as the output of BIAB.
Sounds more complicated than it is really. If it's a plugin then it's a bit tougher, but let me know and I'll try to help, but I've got to go right now.
Hopefully this helps.
- Jay

First of all thank you very much for your help, it worked. Because I had no sound at all trying to use Halion Sonic. So, I have sound, but there is a but :
- BiaB plays a messy thing on channel 5 quite unstoppable, just hitting the "panic" button, and many times...
- Halion crashed many times and was only playing when I was using its window.
I think it would be much better to use the plugin version because the CPU is very sollicited with the standalone verion.
And the last point is : I don't know how to do it.
So dear Jay (or anybody else) you're welcome to show me the way.
Thanks again for your time.
Duke

I'm not sure about the problem with channel 5. Possibly it is the song melody track, try muting the tracks one by one to see which one the problem track is.
As far as running Halion as a plugin, it can not be done directly in BIAB, you will need to use a host program. I have used "AU Lab" which is part of Apple's "Xcode" developer tools. AU Lab is included in the free Xcode package available from Apple on the App store (be warned that it is a large download, over a gigabyte).
Any program that can host VST or AU plugins will work though. The MIDI routing is the same as using the standalone Halion, except you will be routing the MIDI from BIAB into the host program.
I haven't used Halion since version 1, but I think there is a quality setting somewhere in the settings that can be changed to a lower setting if your computer is running low on horsepower.
Hopefully this helps.

Thanks again Jay, I'am going to try to run Cubase and Halion Sonic as a plugin.
I've just finished to install Cubase, I'll see to it tomorrow because it is 4.20 AM in France and I feel a little bit tired. I'll tell you as soon as possible how it goes.
Regards
Duke

Hi Jay, I finally found a balance after many hours of work. OK here it is:
The mess came with a loop between the i and out MIDI channels. I put the midi port of my MOTU Traveler as "in" and IAC 1 as "out". No more mess !
I also switched the Halion Sonic on the Asio of the Motu Traveler. So it could have its own way for the "out." Had to untick the "release driver in the background" stuff to solve the problem not to hear any sound outside the Halion's window.
Well the songs don't sound the same as on my PC but I think I'm going to deal with it.
Thanks for your help Jay it was very helpful. I appreciate it !
Regards Duke

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.
Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.
