OK, I've got another problem...

I have a great track (that I think came from the BiaB Yahoo archives) for "Morning" by Claire Fisher. I brought it into the new BB2012 version, UN-unrendered it and UN-froze it...

After extending the number of chorus, I set it so that the MIDI flute part only plays on first/last choruses, and doesn't play at all in the bridge. So far, so good.

So, I use the MIXER to rebalance everything, swap the MIDI guitar part for a RealTracks Nylon-string part, etc., and rebalance everything. So, I want that flute part to be almost "buried" in the mix so that my live playing is dominant and there's just a hint of the flute... (The number on the right side of the slider for the "Soloist" track is '22') So, everything is perfect...I FREEZE ALL TRACKS, and I RENDER SONG TO AUDIO TRACK. When I play it back, the Flute/SOLOIST track is FULL-ON, even though the visual setting in the mixer is still '22'...

So, how do you get the SOLOIST (or for that matter the MELODY) tracks to "hold" the settings when rendering?

Sorry to be a pain... You'd think after all this time I know some of these things, but because of some hardware changes in my on-stage PA & setup, (not to mention all the wonderful new improvements in some of the RealTracks that I want to incorporate) I'm having to remix almost everything in my repertoire...

Thanks!

LJ

If it is a Midi part, check the event list for the part. There is probably a Volume event that is causing the problem. Delete it and your volume setting should stick.

Now I really feel dumb... But how do you look for and delete this event? (Because obviously I know NOTHING about MIDI other than how to select a MIDI-instrument from a list.)

From the notation window (Ctrl W), select the part to edit and press the # key. That will bring up a window for the events.

Depending on the arrangement, I seen some that are loaded with volume events - others with one at the beginning. Hopefully, yours has only one.

RACHAEL!!!!

You are FABULOUS...AND AMAZING!!!....And (Can I adopt you?) ;-)

That was it! The first two events in the list were locking the volume...I deleted them and it worked perfectly... So, that's something else I've learned today!!

Thank you Ma'am!!

Don't feel bad, Lady Jazzer, I spent almost 2 days trying to figure out the same thing.

As I was learning how to make the volume levels stick, I discovered that in some midi files there was a CC7 control change that set data =100. It was toward the top of the listing of events but not at the very top of the list. Also it was on all of the midi tracks. Another thing I've noticed is that, even though all the tracks are set at the same volume level, some are always louder and some are quite louder. You can use the events list to fix these issues, too.

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
