Hi

I am using BIAB 2014 v380.

I am trying to enter notes via the Editable Notation mode. I have Guitar set as Track Type so the display is Treble Clef and Tab. Unfortunately I am unable to enter any note below C5, i.e. B4 and below. I have tried moving the clef split point and pressed the Defaults button but both made no difference.

There is a similar post in the Recording forum section.

Hi Glen,

Am I correct in assuming that you are working on the Melody track in Editable Notation mode?

If so, for the sake of entering notes, why not set the track back to "Single Channel" so that the bass clef and treble clef both show?

Then, to enter notes lower, simply click on the bass clef.

All the best!
Noel

Hi Noel

Thanks for your help.

What you suggest is a good workaround, but I should still be able to enter E4 on the Treble/Tab mode, which is on the Lower E string of a guitar but the program just won't let me - so I assume this is a bug within BIAB that needs looking at by PG.

Just trying your workaround Noel, I have entered E4 on the Master stave but the E4 is not displayed on the Bass clef but between the two clefs with three small stave lines above the note. Can someone else check this out please and advise if its displayed correctly.

Thanks, Glen

You should click on the onscreen guitar to enter the note that you want in that mode (which also puts it on the correct string). First click on the tab area to set the time that you want.

Or use the staff roll mode.

Peter

Many thanks for your help with this query, really appreciated.

I have tried the method you advised and yes it does work, can you please point me to the correct page in the manual where this is outlined as I couldn't find it.

As 'Guitar' is an option as a 'Track Type' in the Editable Notation mode, shouldn't this work as per page 245 of the 2013 Manual, there is no mention of having to use the onscreen guitar.

Glen

Would somebody mind entering a E4 note into the Editable Notation screen and let me know if appears on the Bass stave or somewhere between the bass and treble staves. On my system changing the Clef position makes no difference, its always between the two staves as described above ?

Thanks, Glen

Hi Glen,

I'm the guy who has been having similar problems and put the post on the other forum. I've just tried entering an E4 (using piano keyboard) and initially the note appears between the two staves, I changed the split to C5 and note moved to position shown in Trevors pictures. The problem I had was trying to enter a B4 just below the main treble stave lines but I've just tried again (having been away for a few days !!) and it know seem to work as expected. However as I mentioned on my post in the other forum it seems a bit strange that the notes value doesn't display in the window next to the editable notation buttons(D5 does but then the next one to display is B4 at the top of the bass stave)? Anyway, hope you're getting there ? Regards, David.

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
