I often have tunes with Head changes and Solo changes that are different. My solution to this is to write the Head melody as in Intro, then the Solo changes are the main repeating chorus (intentionally without melody).

Then, I want an Head Out chorus identical to the Head In, so I create it as a Tag. I do this by copying the Intro bars (melody+changes) to the bar to start the tag.

Everything copies fine when I do this, but BIAB resets the ending of the chorus to the tag ending bar. Not sure why. Since this is not what I want, I reset the chorus ending bar back to the correct end of Solo chorus.

When I do this, BIAB erases the melody in TAG ending. Why does this happen? Do I need to change the order of doing things? I can hand enter the melody again in the TAG, but why can't I just copy it in?

I will be following this thread with interest because I have never been able to do this, either.

Me too!

I did exactly the same thing yesterday, as I have done many, many times before. You would think that I would learn but it seems such a logical thing to do. In a way, I am pleased that other users have exactly the same experience because I have always thought I must be particularly stupid in having to rewrite the melody in the tag instead of copying it from the first chorus.

If I read it right, if you have a tune with head and xChorses for soloing( different Chords) and then head out, It will be one big leadsheet?? If it is then it can't have a tag ending?? Because it isn't really a 'Tag' You can only have a 'Tag' with the repeat function being used.

I'm not sure I follow you. I am using the repeating Chorus feature for the solo choruses. I am aware that for a song with one chorus, you cannot have a Tag. I can create the Tag just fine. I can even hand-enter my melody into the Tag.

I can successfully Copy my melody into the TAG, but BIAB then assumes that the TAG is now to be included in the main chorus. Since this is not what I want, I reset the chorus to end where I want it, and the melody in the Tag disappears.

I've been playing around with BiaB this afternoon. Even managed to get BiaB
to do exactly what you have described above, eg erase the melody line in the Tag. It does sound like it might be a bug, I use the term lightly as it could still be my user error. But it is just as easy to use one big chord sheet to achieve the same thing, plus you can still c+p chords/melody to where you need them.

Perhaps someone else has the definitive answer to this.

.

I have had the same problem, and I get REAL frustrated with it.

>>>..."But it is just as easy to use one big chord sheet to achieve the same thing"...>>>

Yeah thats what I do - EDIT > UNFOLD. This seems to take BiaB's discretion away so that I can save whatever I want in the tag.

Is there some logic behind why tags work this way? Or fail to work...?

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
