I'm back again. I seem to come back here as frequently as I use BIAB, which isn't that often overall. But sure as the sun will rise each day, whenever I fire her up I will have another problem. I can't remember a time it didn't happen. So all the chords have been input. I'm trying out different styles. Oh this one isn't too bad, let's give her a whirl. First 16 chords sounds fine... then.. The piano and bass drop out, leaving just the drums. Never to return again. Re-generate, rinse and repeat. Same problem. People usually ask me if I have the latest updates. Yes for my version of BIAB I have the latest updates. Any tried and true tricks to avoid these dropouts? TIA

Hi BIABguy,
Are you using repeats?
If you want, you can send me the BIAB sgu or mgu file and I can have a look at it. You'll find my email address if you click on my name in the column on the left and then select "View profile".
Regards, Noel

Hi BIABguy. Thank you for sending me the file. That made tracking down any issues much easier. I'm not sure that I've solved the problem but there are some things that are worth trying to see if they provide fixes. ONEThe backing is in 3/4 time whereas the style that has been chosen uses 4/4 Realtracks. (As unusual as this is, I must say, it sounds excellent.) The 3/4 time signature has been accommodated by setting the "Number of beats" to "3" for every fourth bar. This setting can be seen as the red boxes around the bar numbers on the image below. When I used F5 to see what 'Bar Settings' contained for a number of these bars with red boxes, they showed the following. (Hence my above statement.) When one changes the time signature using F5, it's not necessary to modify a number of bars. The new time signature is maintained until F5 is used to change to something different. With this in mind, and since this song is all 3/4, it's only necessary to put "3" beats per bar in bar 1. That will continue throughout the entire song. To delete all the bar settings, simply press F5 and then press the "Reset All Bars" button shown below. After doing this, simply set bar 1 to "3" beats per bar. It will give the desired result. TWOThis is worth trying. 1. Save the song with a new name so that the original song file is not overwritten and is always available if needed. 2. Use F5 to enter "Bar Settings" and then "Reset All Bars" so that all the red boxes are removed. 3. Rather than using a 4/4-based style, load in a 3/4-based style. These styles can be found listed under the "Category" column in Stylepicker (see image below). Simply click on "Waltzes" to list all 3/4 styles. BIAB has some great uptempo 3/4 styles. 4. Select an uptempo waltz style, generate the song and see how it goes. THREERegarding this third point, it's necessary to understand how BIAB generates its Realtracks. When the (re)generate button is pressed, BIAB starts generating the chosen Realtracks. Once a few bars have been generated, the backing then starts to play and the remainder of the song is generated as a background process. Because of the tempo of your song (200 BPM), its possible that BIAB catches up to where Realtracks are being generated before they are completed. This would certainly cause what sounds like dropouts. (It would be more likely to occur on older computers but could occur on more recent computers too.) To test this theory, selet "Opt | Preferences | Realtracks" and then disable the "Speed up generation" option shown below. By disabling this (removing the check mark), the entire generation process will be completed before the song starts playing. (It could take 30 - 60+ seconds. Simply wait until the generation is done.) Hope one of these thoughts helps. Regards, Noel P.S. Please let me know how it goes.

I would recommend Noel's door number 3 as the first thing to try quickly, but only if your version of BIAB is recent. What version of BIAB is this, please?

I would recommend Noel's door number 3 as the first thing to try quickly, but only if your version of BIAB is recent. What version of BIAB is this, please? First I would like to thank Noel for taking the time to not only listen to my song, but also diagnose it with possible solutions! Matt I tried #3 first as per your suggestion. It did the trick, so thanks again to Noel and also Matt. My ver. BIAB2011 (319). I would like to add the following. I only entered a time signature change once. But as I was working to save time on chord entry (there are so many repeated chords in bars) I simply copied, first bars 1-4 and then bars 1-8. This resulted in every fourth bar having a time sig. change. So again, I only manually entered a time sig. change once. Clever BIAB decided to put one in every fourth bar for the entire song. As it turns out though, this was not what was causing the problem. After I made the change from suggestion #3, on the first regen it whipped through to 70% and then slowed down for a minute until it got to 100% for each part. That did the trick.

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.
Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.
Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!
Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.
Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.
