hi to all.
i am using biab everything pack in windows and have 2 questions to ask

1. i have a song which i have generated form real tracks and i am happy with how it is. i would like to add a solo from real tracks which fits great but i only want the soloist to play it from bars 1 to 10 and then stop playing but keep the rest of the song playing ( ie an intro )is this possible and if so how do you do it.

2. in the middle 8 of the song i would like to have the soloist playing from bars 30 to 40 and again stop playing at the end of that bar and the song carrying on till the end ( ie a lead break )is this also possible and if so how is it done.

are there any tutorials on this as i have not found any as of yet?
thanks for you help
tj

I would use RealBand for this.

The fast and easy approach (there are more sophisticated approaches):
Create the solo with the BIAB soloist.
Save the file.
Open the file with RealBand.
Delete in the soloist track what you don't want.

You will find more elegant ways to do this when your knowledge grows.

Hi tj,

In addition to Guido's approach (which is the best way because it gives a great deal of control over the music and more flexibility), it's also possible to use the "Bar Settings" menu which is found by right-clicking on the Chord Sheet (shortcut key is F5). This might accomplish what you want.

Let's say you've generated the solo and it's sitting on the Soloist track (the track immediately to the left of the Audio track)...

1. Right-click the mouse on bar 11, select "Soloist" and then select "Mute" to stop the Soloist playing.

2. Right-click on Bar 30, select Soloist and then choose "Back to normal".

3. Right-click on Bar 41 and mute the Soloist.

4. Once the above is done, the song needs to be regenerated to the settings to take effect.

NOTE: When a bar setting has been applied to a particular bar, a red box will appear around the bar number to indicate this. If you need to get rid of the bar setting, there are reset buttons at the bottom of the "Bar Settings" window.

Regards,
Noel

ditto.... I use BB to write and compose.

I take it over to real band to render new tracks including the solo tracks and fills.

I use a DAW with envelopes to bring the instruments in and out for solo's.

Good example is to listen to my latest song. See the User Showcase forum and look up the song Dust On The Floor. http://soundclick.com/share.cfm?id=13017714

hi thanks for the valid help and advise . this time i will use the bar settings as this worked fine for this play around project.
just out of curiosity is there a way i can stop all instruments apart from the slap bass for say 1 or 2 bars (say bars 10 and 11) but still carry on playing and bring back in all other instruments at bar 12 ( ie a stop )

also any advise on some real tracks which would give me a status Quo sounding 12 bar backing track ,are the any such real track ?
once again thank you for everyone`s help and advise.
are there any rockabilly users who are members of the forum
thanks tj

Hi again, tj.

Right-click on the chord sheet and select "Chord Settings".

Once in Chord Settings ...

1. Select which beat to apply the settings to and enter a chord in the "Chord" window (#1 on image below)

2. Select "rest type" as "Rest" (#2).

3. Choose "All except ..." and select "Bass" (#3). Leave the others unticked. This setting will cause just the bass to play.

When the above is set, you'll see X.b as a red chord on the chord sheet (X = chord name). The single dot indicates "rest" and the "b" indicates that the Bass track is excluded.

You'll find a discussion of this in Help under Shots and Holds.

Regards,
Noel

hi noel
this is just a question as i am not sure of the answer.
if you have a real drums in a song you have made and the drums starts to change say from just the snare kick and high hat and put parts in that wont really fit with the song can you tell the track in some way to just play the part you would like without the all the added parts which are in that track.
i have found a track i would like to use in a song but it changes i just want it to play a straight beat with out changing and fills .
thanks tj

Some of the RealDrums have options for what it plays (ride cymbal vs high hat; sticks vs brushes; etc), but not all of them do. Also, the drums will change with A/B part markers. If you go into the RealDrum picker, you'll see whether you have options or not.

If you like the A style, you could for example make all the part markers "A", generate the drum track, then freeze it, then put back the part markers for the other instruments and regenerate the song. Since drums are frozen, that track won't regenerate.

Or you could just try a different RealDrum to find what you are looking for.

You can use the F5 settings to select which specific RealDrums variations you want to play.

I believe that everytime there is a part marker, you will need to use F5 to specify the variation again as the part marker will over ride the prior F5 setting.

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
