I have a song that I'm trying to change styles after 4 bars. I go to bar 5, right click, choose bar settings, click on .STY and choose the style i want in the style picker, and then click OK. Nothing changes, it never changes to the new style. I must be doing something wrong, but have read through the docs and can't figure it out.
thanks,

You should click there where you see the bar number. Then you will see define c/d and later on e/f and so on. Clicking that brings you to the style selection page. pick a style and you got the extra styles besides the standard a/b setup.
I'll be back...

You won't see the style change in the Style window. If you click on the appropriate bar, the bar at the very top of the BIAB window will reflect the style change.

thanks for the replies... I'm trying to change styles with Realtracks in them. I have the "ALLI_GR Crossover Style. (120 RS) for 4 bars for an intro. On bar 5, I want it to change to style "BALADE Ctry Ballad w/el. guit (85 RS). I try to do that with bar settings but it just doesn't work. It doesn't reflect a change in the bar at the very top of the BIAB window either. I believe I know how to work around it by creating two songs and exporting to my sequencer but thought it would be cool if I could do it all within the same song. It appears that way, but I must not fully understand yet.

Did you also try my solution above (it is different than your method)? This way you can scroll through the chosen styles in different places in the song, no need for going back to the style picker everytime. Making a/b/c/d/e/f e.s.o. gives you a handy list to pick the styles from. I am not sure if that would also work for the realtracks automatically to change though, if I had used it before, I allready can't remember or did not notice. I want my instruments to stay as realistic as possible so no impossible switches from one instrument to another, so picking compatible styles does the trick there. And sometimes I load e.g. two bass guitars for example with the same type of sound (so no acc mixed with a elec bass)to still be getting the variations I need within the different styles.
I'll be back...

I tried those two styles and it works fine. The style change shows up on the top bar. Maybe you should try a Factory Reset. On a side note, those two styles use quite different tempos. BIAB may have a hard time generating a nice sounding track for you.

p.s. Where the style changes, the bar number of change should have a red box around it.

abaudio,
If I understand correctly, your method will allow me to choose substyles within a given style and that does work. What I was trying to do was go to a completely different style.

I thought we already established that one cannot change Styles when using RealTracks.
This is quite a coincidence because I was just about to try and re-confirm it.
Can we please settle this issue once and for all?

Not wanting to hijack this thread as a first time poster, I am starting a new one in hopes to find an answer to changing RealTrack styles within a song.

Hello ctaylor, If the bar changes don't register at all, then you most likely need to install the latest update patch for Band-in-a-Box 2009, located here: http://www.pgmusic.com/support_windowsupdates.htm#282MIDI instruments and RealDrums can change styles at any bar, but not RealTracks currently. If your style has both MIDI and RealTracks, the MIDI parts will change at a bar settings style change, but the RealTracks will stay the same. This can be done in RealBand. Or, one way you *could* do it in Band-in-a-Box, if it is only one or two tracks that have RealTracks instruments assigned and there are other available tracks - you could rest that track starting at the style change and generate a different instrument on a new track (which you would rest before the style change).

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.
Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!
If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.
A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."
"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."
"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
