I am doing some backing tracks and need to calm down the piano player. I am using Real Tracks with a honky tonk style and it sounds great just during the verses I need more straight chording less all over the place. I am not a piano player.....how do you handle this....I really like using the Real Tracks didn't want to use midi if I could avoid it.

You have several options to try. From within Biab and if you have a free track, generate a second track of the piano and check the force to simple arrangement button and then use F5 to toggle between the different versions. With a free track, you could choose to generate a different, but similar piano that may be less busy and toggle between those two versions as necessary to tame the piano. You could export your piano track and open it in Realband and multi-riff sections to edit the busy sections or merge different pianos.

You could audition Supermidi piano tracks for a useable style and if you find something suitable, easily edit it to the sound you want.

Fade out the piano from the sections it is too busy and bring in a different instrument that is less busy and replace the busy piano for those sections.

Hire a friend or professional to play the piano live for you.

Hi pedwards,

What is the Realtrack's id number? So that we might suggest alternatives (if they exist), it will be useful to know what RT you're working with.

Also, don't discount midi piano, it sounds as good as the real thing if a good soft synth is used such as Sampletank - especially the midi Supertracks.

Regards,
Noel

I am using Real Tracks 1591. I have a full version of SampleTank and actually used a midi file of the song (Bad Bad Leroy Brown.....I know kinda goofy but I just wanted to do it anyway) The rest of the midi file piano could possibly be used but it didn't sound near as good as RT 1591. It would be cool if you could do like Real Drums and add points where you want an embellishment.

I switched to RT 2048 seems to be a better match for the song. The problem with the original midi file is the piano played the intro properly but after that it followed the melody too closely. RT 2048 doesn't seem to get as exaggerated with the fills. I really liked some of the fills with 1591 just was too much. I may try to bring some of them in to fill it out.

I didn't know that worked on pianoists!

I do know it works on bass players!

It works just the opposite on drummers!

If you want to calm down a guitarist just put sheet music in front of him/her.

Move the project to Real Band.

Audition one of the many similar piano real tracks and see which one works the best and sounds the closest as far as tone and EQ.

Use automation to bring the 2 piano's in and out as needed.

I have it in RB that is where I auditioned the other piano player. Once I record vocals I will see how well everything fits.....then maybe I can pull in some fills from the other one. I am still learning how to edit in RB....not as easy as Sonar for me but I have a lot of experience with Sonar. I need to read up on how to use automation.

So use Sonar.

That's what I do. Since I already know and understand and like how easy it is to automate in Sonar.....the 60 seconds it takes to set up a new project and import the audio tracks is time well spent vs trying to figure out how it all works in RB.

Work smart.

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
