Using a Tyros2 and BiaB for Mac (2015/106) I just can't get anything from the keyboard to the computer. I've got the cable from the midi in/outputs to the usb on the Mac, and I can fiddle around so that some sounds are played through the Tyros, but try as I might I just can't get anything to record. No matter what I try or tweak, I just can't get any sound from the Tyros into BiaB.

I've looked at numerous videos and followed all instructions back and forth, and still nothing enables me to record a melody or anything into BiaB.

What am I doing wrong?

Thanks

Dave

Dave,

Are you able to record into Garageband?

Mate, I can't find the midi options in Garage Band anywhere. It says 2 midi inputs are there in preferences, but have no clue as how to get them into a track to test.

Dave,

Look at this Garageband help page from Apple:

http://help.apple.com/garageband/mac/10.1/#/gbnd991eef43

Also, where does sound play (1) when you play your keyboard and (2) when you play BIAB on your computer? Are sounds coming out of the built-in computer speakers? or from the keyboard? or do you have an external interface?

When attempting to record from Garage Band, there is no sound output from the synthesizer, and nothing gets recorded as far as I know. I've reset things, rebooted the keyboard etc. All to no avail.

I'm beginning to wonder if the interface cable I purchased (generic) may be at fault. The only way to test, that I can see, is by purchasing a new one and see what happens. Unless someone can suggest a test to perform that will indicate whether it is functioning or not?

Thanks to all

Dave

Before buying a new cable make sure to do the following:

1. Check to make sure that you have assigned the correct audio device to Garage Band that you want to use to connect your synth to. If you have an audio interface, which I assume you do, make sure that you have made that interface as the audio device that you will be recording through.

2. Check to make sure that you have the routing properly setup up. Make shure that the input in Garage band is assigned the input to the correct channel(s) tat you have connected the synth to, and that the output is assigned to the source that audio will come out of.

3. Make sure that gain from the interface is turned up until is loud enough for you to have a proper recording.

Hope this help you out.

I've no idea where to find this. I've gone into GB Preferences and can't find anything referring to this, assuming it would be in the Audio/MIDI setup tab?

Only inputs I have showing are: System Setting, Soundflower 2CH, Soundflower 64CH, and Built-In Mic. It also states 2 MIDI inputs detected. A reset button for MIDI does nothing.

3. Make sure that gain from the interface is turned up until is loud enough for you to have a proper recording.

No idea where to find this.

Dave,

You mention that you have a MIDI connection from your keyboard to your Mac. Have you tried connecting it via a USB cable instead of MIDI cables? Have you installed the software driver for your keyboard?

Do you also have an audio interface in addition to your Tyros2? If you are trying to record some of your Tyros2's onboard sounds, keep in mind that MIDI has no sound, so if your only connection to your Mac is your MIDI cable you will not be able to be able to access your sounds.

Success!

That was the key - the USB cable, and not the MIDI/USB cable. Now I just have to do some tweaking, because when playing back from Garage Band the part I recorded plays back on the Tyros while the rest of the "song" plays on the Mac.

I'm getting there!

Thanks to all for your help. Now to get this to work in BIAB.... smile

Does not work at all in BIAB. USB direct cable or midi interface (have used both an Edirol and a generic). I have the latest Yamaha USB drivers installed.

I'm really frustrated with this. I've watched Rocco's YouTube vids on Tyros with Biab and followed all to the letter, still no hope.
I get very lost in the menus in BIAB regarding MIDI and its setup.

IS there any chance of someone posting (or emailing me?) a step-by-step instructional doc on how to get my Tyros 2 to use with BIAB on an iMAC, with the obvious intention of writing for a dummy such as myself. All these references to Core Midi, VST, IAC and tons of other terms are truly confusing me.

I just want to connect the keyboard to the computer in order to record from my Tyros. I cannot find any other way to input into BIAB other than a note-by-note Piano Keyboard (software, not an actual synth) and of course I can't get the proper feel of the notes as if they were played from said actual keyboard. Having to edit each and every note with velocity, duration and any other nuance is pure torture!

HELP!

email is davestygallATgmail.com, removing and replacing the AT of course

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
