In a VERY recent thread the subject of Americana music came up. It happens to be a style of music that I love and is "near and dear" to me.

That being said, it's not a genre that always gets the most airplay by any means, so if anyone has suggestions of any artists in that genre, I'm all ears! smile

(Thanks Floyd!)

I am a big Darell Scott fan, although I don't know too much about his albums. I have rhapsody so I listen on demand. In any case, here are a set of three videos that are a must watch, in my opinion:

River Take Me
Crooked Road
Day Before Thanksgiving

Would Mary Gauthier count as Americana? She is a favorite of mine for several years running!

Would would disqualify her exactly? I guess I didn't see this list as having hard and fast rules....just a somewhat free list. I still don't know why she wouldn't be though? smile

I've always liked "Mercy Now"

I just never know nowadays what genre songs belong in! Mercy Now is a great album but I actually like Filth and Fire better! http://www.marygauthier.com/filth-and-fire/

Rather than defining Americana, I just say it's a BIG tent. There are several great websites and newsletters that feature Americana articles, etc.

Also Apple Radio has a great Americana station - cool way to hear a variety of artists.

Is this your term for it, or is this kind of what it's called? Just curious, so that if I used it with others will they have any clue what I'm talking about...or will I have to explain it every time? LOL

It would be nice to have slightly more generalized term for it.

I have never used Apple Radio. I will have to look into it. Is it similar to some of the other music services?

Thanks for the reply! smile

I will throw one in the ring I'm guessing you haven't heard of...

Rob Anthony

I think he has some pretty cool straight forward stuff.

Let me know your thoughts.

Very cool sound. A "basic bare-bones" sound that works great. His site is a better link if you don't want to have to bring up iTunes just to listen...

Yes indeed. That is a better link! He has been sitting in with the Bodeans (Da Bodeans-around my area) and I can tell it has influenced his writing. Great guy.

I dug the sound aside from her singing. That being said, give me a little time to wrap my head around her voice. Many times, things grow on me! lol

Another recommendation would be...

Corey Chisel

I'm having fun hearing a lot of new stuff!

Thanks for the suggestions everyone!

I would be inclined to call Americana a radio format rather than a genre. It can include a number of genres ranging from Blues to Bluegrass. And even then, the name is a little misleading, as there are fine 'Americana' artists hailing from Australia and elsewhere(e.g. the 'swamp music' of Aussie Eightball Aitken).

Be that as it may, one artist I can most definitely recommend for a listen would be "Mean Mary" James (http://meanmary.com), banjoist extraordinaire, songwriter, excellent vocalist.

I know what you mean. I just throw it out as a general term, as people roughly know what you are talking about.

It's not so dissimilar to me making "French toast" her in the "good ol' US of A." It's just a descriptor that people recognize. It didn't originate here...or France for that matter. It's Roman. But if I start calling it "Roman toast", most people would be confused, lose what I was trying to say, I would have to explain it, and I'm not sure what they would think of me at that point! Probably "why didn't you just say 'French Toast'" smile

I'm with ya though! What you call what music has changed A LOT in the last few decades. Sometimes for the better, sometimes not so much.

Cool beans! Thanks for the suggestion. I will be looking that one up today!

I'm lovin' this! I'm finding TONS of new artists thanks to all of you!

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
