Hello,

I want a solo to start at bar 24 in chorus 3 only.

I opened the Soloist menu as follows:

Soloist / Open Soloist Dialog..../Custom

I set Start Generating Solo At bar 24 and Chorus to 3.

I clicked on the Generate and Play button.

When I listen to the song the solo occurs at Chorus 1 and Chorus 3.

Since I set Chorus to 3 does anyone know why the solo plays during Chorus 1?

THANKS!!

voxbox,

I have BIAB 2016, latest build, and it works as it should for me.

Some thoughts that spring to mind...

1. Do you have the latest build for your version of BIAB? Updates can be found at the link below.

http://www.pgmusic.com/support_windowsupdates.htm

2. Did you click "Generate solo" after setting the above? If you clicked OK rather than 'generate solo', BIAB will default back to the previous screen and apply the "solo in choruses 1 and 3" default option.

Regards,
Noel

Hi,

Thanks for your response.

I do have the latest updates.

I did click on "Generate solo".

I have Chorus = 3.

The solo plays during chorus 1 and 3 when it should only play during chorus 3.

I am not sure what you mean by "apply the "solo in choruses 1 and 3" default option."

Thanks Noel!

Hi voxbox

I think Noel is referring to button in (1) - if you press Close instead, you get the options selected in item (2).

Also, what is your setting for item (3)?

voxbox,

Try this (I'm assuming you have BIAB 2016)....

1. From the very top menu select "Soloist".

2. From the dropdown menu select "Edit Soloist" (#1 below), then "Form" (#2) and lastly, "Kill Entire Soloist" (#3). This will delete the solo completely so that you can start again from scratch.

I suspect that what has happened is that at some point in time, probably when you were testing solos, you might have generated the solo from the first menu screen rather than using the "Custom" menu. As you can see on the image below, the default solo generation in the first set of options depends on whether or not a melody is present. If there is no melody then the solo will generate in the 1st and last choruses (unless BIAB is told otherwise). By default, BIAB sets the last chorus as the 3rd chorus.

When you started generating custom solos, because you only wanted the solo in the 3rd chorus, the one that had been generated in the 1st chorus was not deleted. This is normal behaviour. Using Soloist generation will only delete notes in those areas of the score where the solo is located.

Let us know how you go.

Hope this helps,
Noel

P.S. Thanks, Trevor. I see you were busily typing while I was!

Trevor and Noel gave good "How to"s.

Another simple thing is to open this song with RealBand and delete what you don't need. If you have a great solo have in mind that freezing the track might be useful.

You don't need to do anything else in RealBand. This step is just a finishing step if your song is close to perfect in BIAB.

That's a good point!

If you have a solo that you want to keep, Realband would be easiest to save it. You could also use the Piano Roll mode or Notation Mode to delete the solo in the first chorus if you want to get rid of them.

Hello All,

Thanks for all of your input.

Kill Entire Soloist Track did not work.

I did notice that SOLO WHICH CHORUSES? was configured First = Yes-solo, Middle = No solo and Last = Yes Solo.

I reconfigured it to be First = No-solo, Middle = No-solo and Last = Yes Solo.

It worked! Dum Dum me:(

The one issue that I am having is that during the last bar of the solo the note abruptly cuts off. Sounds unnatural.

THANKS FOR ALL OF YOUR INPUT NOEL and everyone else!!!!!!!!

Glad to read you have it working!

Re the last bar of the solo, try this....

1. Kill all solos using the top menu (as described before). This is necessary because it might be a stray note from a previous solo generation that is causing the abrupt-ending problem.

2. Set the Solo Mode to 'Normal' rather than 'Custom'.

3. Regenerate.

Did that help?

Hi noel96!

Setting the Solo Mode to 'Normal' rather than 'Custom' causes the solo to play through the entire song. I used custom because I wanted the solo to start at bar 24 and end at bar 32.

I will continue to play around with it.

Thanks!!

Extend your solo beyond bar 32 and using bar settings, fade the track for a bar and mute the next bar. Alternately, you can try a push for the final chord or use a slash chord, sus or 7th so the regeneration will look beyond the end of the solo and generate a different solo ending.

Sorry, Voxbox. My mistake.

When in the custom section, have you activated "OK to solo for an extra beat". That might do the job for you.

Failing that, it's always possible to use the Piano Roll mode and add (or delete) a note or two. I often to this.

Regards,
Noel

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.
