Hi, I want to load a solo and take out bars I don't like without leaving any gaps. Say I just have an Ebm9 vamp and load a john coltrane solo but want to condense it so only my favourite bars remain without the gaps where bars would be deleted.

How do I do this? I have 2014, but about to upgrade.

Thanks!

I'm not quite sure what you mean but if you are saying that you have already generated a solo and you want to eliminate particular bars of the generated file and then piece the remaining bars into a coherent performance, I cannot see how this can be accomplished while remaining in BIAB.

If, on the other hand, you save the file as a "Performance file" in BIAB, you could then alter this file as you want in Realband (or a DAW) and then re-save the file with the exact same name as the performance track. BIAB would then load the new performance track when the song is restarted. The performance track needs to be in the same directory as the song file.

To get the new performance file and the current chord sheet to synchronise...

Open the song file in the BIAB without the performance track attached (to do this, simply rename the performance track prior to opening the song). Now delete the number of bars you modified from the appropriate section of the song. Save and close the song. Rename the performance track to its original name and re-open the song. The new performance track should be aligned with the modified song file.

Hope these thoughts help,
Noel

Use a DAW.

There are several ways to do this.... here's the one I use all the time to audio edit a track.

First, let BB or RB render the same track several times... use envelopes to do the edits. THis is a song where I used 5 tracks to make the solo work.... 3 tracks on piano fills. It's called The Best Christmas and it's on my music web site page.

You can also set the snap to grid setting for MEASURE...and remove entire measures perfectly. You can also slide things over, slide them apart, paste new measures in their place... and even work on smaller sections the same way as full measures.

You can find my music at:

Add nothing that adds nothing to the music.
You can make excuses or you can make progress but not both.

The magic you are looking for is in the work you are avoiding.

This is more complicated than I'd hoped, What is a Muliti Riff??? All I want to do is edit the Soloist as a Midi file (it's a midi soloist, BTW...). If I can't do extensive editing (getting rid of say 20 bars etc) in BIAB, then how do I export the Soloist's Midi data into another editing program?

MultiRiff is a feature in RealBand. It allows you to generate multiple musical phrases for a selected number of bars, and audition them individually, choosing one that best suits if required.

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
