Having extracted a you-tube audio file and converted to mp3, I activated audio chord wizard.
A menu box allows for file selection but it is blank.
Yet when I look in this directory, with say Vlan, it has the mp3 files listed and it plays my download you-tube file

I have tried all the file type options eg audio file, mp3. etc
I also tried a different file convertor but still a blank directory.

I have used this ACW before on a previous computer (win xp)successfully. My current computer is running win7. Would this have any relevance?
Suggestions please.

On a secondary point, would I be able to use the mixer to reduce say a guitar part in such a file (as above) so I can play but have the rest of the backing music in place?

Windows 7 shouldn't be related, unless it's a codec issue.

What happens if you double-click on the file without doing anything else? Does it play OK?

You state: "A menu box allows for file selection but it is blank."
If you are sure that the folder you are accessing contains your downloaded file, can you change the filter in the file entry dialog to *.* and see if that allows more files to be selected?

Does your file appear then?

Also...

Does your mp3 file have the extension of .mp3? BIAB will need that to be able to see the file.

hi,
thanks for replies.

Some progress in that I have used Vlan to convert the file I have downloaded from you-tube. First attempt I had it convert to a WAV file

However, I now have 'driver cannot do requested conversion' displayed by BIB

I tried for a conversion to mp3. There is a toolbox addition in Vlan to allow you to set further parameters. I choose mpeg1.
ACW couldn't see this file, (*) didn't help and there is no 'all files' in filter box option.

The .WAV file should be a 16 bit, 44.1 sample rate. Did Vlan give you a choice of save settings?

Mpeg-1 will not work. It has to be MP3.

*.* has to be entered as it looks, asterisk-period-asterisk. It means, all file names, all extensions.

Hi Matt,
Well thanks for the advice, success!

The *.* I had entered incorrectly using brackets so that allowed me to see all the files in vlan and BIB to see them. I got the error message on several of them but their properties were not .WAV so I deleted them.
I then returned to vlan and flagged up convert, then audio, then selected .wav, then the toolbox symbol and it confirmed your settings
codec .wav; birate 128kb/s: channel 2: Sample rate 44100Hz.
Back to ACW and it transferred it no problem and displayed chords.
So many thanks, I'll try another file now!

Hi just to add re your question on using the mixer to cancel the guitar part.

You won't be able to do this with the audio file using the mixer controls (if I've understood what you are saying correctly) as it will still be a single mix. A bit like extracting the raw ingredients from a cake once it's baked.

Depending on where the guitar part sits, e.g., if it's panned hard right or left, you may be able to minimise it using the panning controls but you'll also lose anything else that sits in the same space. If it is dead centre then there are ways of trying to remove it like karaoke functions do to strip out the vocals but I've never found this to be clean. Somebody else may be able to advise on this as I'm not experienced with that function.

Alternatively, you might find that experimenting with the Equaliser (EQ) might supress something that sits at a particular frequency such as the guitar part but it's likely that it will take out something else as well as it will be hard to isolate just the guitar.

I've tried this many times with little success.

The best way, now that you have the chords is to use BIAB. Transfer the chords into BIAB and pick a style that is close to what you want and then mute any generated tracks that you don't want to hear.

Hope this helps.

Cheers.
Mike.

Mike.

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
