Hi,

Recently, I stumbled across The Isaacs on YouTube. I'd never heard them before and I was impressed. I particularly liked their instrumental line-up. Using BIAB, I tried to develop a groove based on The Isaacs style. I wasn't aiming to replicate the sound; it was a springboard. If you're interested in hearing the result, it is at...

He'll Lead You Home

All instruments are from BIAB and are either MIDI or RealTracks. The fiddle was added using RealTracks in RealBand and the vocal harmonies were done by TC Helicon in BIAB.

Regards,
Noel

Noel,

Really like the song. My main instrument are the drums - but there were some areas where it might be better with the drums set back a little further and the vocals brought up a little.

Thanks for sharing - really enjoyed it.

Greetings Noel. Thanks for sharing. What I noticed most was the distance of the voice - as if set too far back but yet it's very clear. I remember reading an eq article which said "let's add some importance to his voice" and they boosted in the 250-500 range and it pulled the voice to the front and filled it out. The harmony blend is really good - you use that TC really well. Personally I'd pull the acoustic back about 3 db just to clear some space for the voice a bit. Fiddle works really well.

Enjoyed the listen. Aussie-ome.

Hey Noel,

I never heard this song before, I really like what you did with the intrumental tracks....

I really don't have any suggestions, BUT I do agree with Ian about bringing the vocals more upfront.

I really enjoyed this one.....

All my best
Danny

Hi Powderman, Ian and Danny,

Thanks for taking the time to have a listen. I appreciate your comments and I'll go back to Sonar now and play around with the mix a little more. When it comes to mixing, I have learned that there is definitely no substitute for getting other people's opinions. I find your comments extremely valuable.

Danny, the song is an original one composed by me and a friend which is why you wouldn't have heard it

Thanks again, guys,
Noel

Hey Noel, I did not realize you wrote this one. While going back to listen to it again, I did notice the credits on the lyrics... Sorry about that...

The song is Awesome ... I love the melody you created , the chorus is very catchy and has that great good singalong feel!
LOVE IT

It’s all been said, i.e. super song.

I agree about bringing the vocal more up front and putting the drums more in the background during the vocals. Although these are minor adjustments they will greatly improve the mix, IMHO.

You have a very good voice and your compositional skills are second to none.

Great work here.

Hi Noel. Super job on the song composition. I saw the Isaacs on a 5 day gospel music cruise in 2004 and have several of their CDs. I believe that you've captured the essence of their style very well.

Keep up the good work.

Hi Mario, Don, Sundance and PgFantastic,

Thanks for taking the time to have a listen. I'm very appreciative of your input and kind comments

Mario, in light of your comments and those of Powderman, Ian and Danny, I have adjusted the vocals/instruments balances. I think the song sounds a bit better now. Balancing a mix is one of the most difficult things I know!!! That's why I'm really thankful for everyone's input - it helps tremendously.

All the best,
Noel

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
