Hello, I'm a new BIAB user, the new Mac version is my first purchase. I had been watching and trying the demos for a few years now, but was always a bit put off by the "midi" sounds.

The new real tracks are amazing and I've used them for a few songs already, it's been great to get the audio quality.

I'm pretty new at this so I'm hoping to learn some things by reading posts in the forum.

I'll admit that I was a bit disappointed by some missing features too, though, since it's my first version of the program, lots of things DO work, so I'm hoping Mac development will catch up.

I missed the scrolling with the mouse, some of the notation things ....

One major issue that I'm wondering about is ending songs with real tracks. I've created a few songs, exported the audio and imported into my recording software. It's GREAT, but the endings are not very satisfying. There is always an audible click when the real tracks stop. I'd have hoped for a nice held chord for a while anyway. Maybe this is something they could add to their bank of audio files? It does work to do a fade out ending, but I don't like to use these all the time.

Does anyone have some ideas about this, something I could be doing better. Or maybe it's just me.

All the best,

Tom

I use a mac also and all of my original backing tracks are created on BB. Your technique with the program will get better with use. Some of my early work, that I thought was great, now sounds cheezy. I hardly ever use the instruments the program selects. That is where your particular style comes in. BB gives you a suggestion but you make it your own. Used *BTNYSOCA on my latest song and actually kept the instruments as selected by the program. Haven't tried RT.

About the endings, you can do a lot of modification to the BB file with GarageBand. GB is also great to add some fullness to the midi sounds. Just drag the BB midi to the GB time line area and you can tweak everything. I had a similar problem with the beginning of songs. Every BB style seemed to start out LOUD, full blast, all instruments punched that first note and that is just not my sound.

Sound Studio is another program that is handy for beginning/end adjustments and overall sound quality but you don't get control of individual instruments or notes like GB.

GB is also essential for getting rid of any stray notes that BB inserts. I used GB to get rid of the annoying BB crash cymbal before figuring out how to shut it off altogether. That thing seemed to have no rhythm or reason and was used way too much for my tastes.

Looking forward to the 2009 BB - got to get it.

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.
