I have BIAB 2017-470. I use it mainly to play jazz standards. My favorite styles are jazquint and the crooner styles. Most of the time I find the drum track too busy - too much activity. What I would like is this fundamental rhythm: the bass drum on beats one and three and the high-hat on beats two and four. Choosing simple drums doesn't help much. I've tried creating such a drum track, but it doesn't work.

Most of time I turn off or turn the volume down on most of the tracks except the quarter-beats of the guitar track and the bass line. How can I make the drum track play that fundamental rhythm? At times I simply can't stand all the activity the drum track is doing so I turn it off.

You found the Simpler option; that's good. The only other thing I can think of is to reduce the part markers, because those cause fills (although you can right-click on a bar and eliminate the fills if you have BIAB 2017).

Other than that, your best bet might be to put a post in the Styles Wishlist forum and detail the sound change you want.

hoppy:

Check out PopRock8ths RealDrum style.
The info box on it says this:

"01-a:Closed Hat, Snare: Kick on beats 1 and 3, snare on beats 2 and 4. Hihat plays an 8th note pattern. ,"

That might be simple enough to meet your needs.
Variations 4, 5 and 6 play side stick on 2 and 4 instead of the snare.
Otherwise, just open up the RealDrums picker and select at will, noting what the info box says in the bottom RH corner. You may find one similar, where they play hi-hat on 2 and 4.

Good luck!

Hi hoppysheba,

It's been a while since I last saw you on the forum. Welcome back smile

As Matt and Lloyd have indicated, there are some things that can be tried that might do the job. In addition to what's already been mentioned, here are some other thoughts that might be useful.

Find a particular set of Realdrums that you like and use that in all songs.

To find potential Realdrums that will be suitable, have a look at the image below and follow the instructions 1 - 5.

1. Right-click on the Realdrum name in the mixer.

2. Select (i.e. left-click) on "Realdrums in style" (#2 on image). This will open Realdrum picker.

3. In Realdrum picker, left-click on the "Genre" column I've highlighted so that the genre's are sorted in alphabetical order.

4. Scroll down to "Jazz" (#4).

5. One by one, click on each of the Realdrums and then use the preview buttons (#5) at the bottom of the Realdrum picker window to hear how the drums sound. When you find a drum set that you like, write it down and then manually load it in each of your song creations.

Investigate styles using time-base settings.

6. Down the bottom of Realdrum picker, there's a time-base setting. Experiment with this. I suspect that by setting the time-base to 'half-time' and then exiting to your song, you might find something that does the job.

Note: After changing the time-base, it's necessary to regenerate the song when you return to the chord sheet. (Also unfreeze the drum track prior to generating if it's frozen.)

Regards,
Noel

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
