hi,
I'm trying to sync BIAB with a DAW (Sonar 6). I don't mind which is the master as I just want the chord window to scroll through the song in BIAB, so that I can see the chords as I record guitar into Sonar. Using a midi virtual hub, I can use BIAB as master to start Sonar running via midi sync, but when I stop BIAB, I have to go back to the start of the song to sync up again. Not very useful if the part I want to record is in the middle of the song. I think what I need is called 'chase and lock' midi sync, so that I can start the song at any bar and both systems will sync together.
So, is this possible with BIAB? Or, Realband if not BIAB? I have 2009.5 of both
I do record audio into Realband and the functionality is improving all the time, but I'm a long-term user of Sonar and would like to get this sync working if possible as it suits my current working method
thanks & regards,
Martin

I don't think this can be done but I'm not sure. If I understand you correctly, you just need to see the chords while you're playing? You can print the chord chart from Biab or use Real Band for this.

Hi Bob,
Thanks - yes I do just want to see the chords but I need to see them with the moving cursor as I always seem to get lost trying to follow a paper score. At the moment, after I have imported my rendered song wavs into Sonar, I type the song chords into the lyric sheet of Sonar, which then highlights them as the song plays. I also have to set up the song part markers again in Sonar. Obviously, both these are duplication of what I have already done in BIAB and as my time for music-making is limited, I would like to avoid this duplication if possible.
Being able to sync the two applications together would open up many other opportunities as well.
regards
Martin

Hi marcost, that is great!. Myself has attempted to sync Band in a Box with Cubase, the DAW I am more familiarized with, what I am looking for is to transmit on fly each BiaB track via MIDI to Cubase in order to use different virtual instruments and sampler libraries and get instant feedback in the sound side, aside of the best multi-track features. I use a midi hub too, and it is possible to listen everything from BiaB in Cubase, but not a complete success cuz the lack of sync ability in BiaB. Now I will try with Real Band and the SMPTE feature. Nice! thanks.

Hi Jazzpick,
no problem, I hope it works for you too! You'll also be able to generate lots more MIDI instrument tracks in Realband than BIAB, so even better!
regards,
Martin

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.
Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!
If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.
A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."
"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."
"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
