Hi. I have an old version 8 of Powertracks which I use sometmes. I was quite amazed to discover the other day that I could not select and copy several bars of a song and insert it some place else in the song or append the copied bars to the end of the song. Does version 12 still have this limitation? Maybe my version can do it and I just couldn't figure it out but I looked around for a while and checked the online help. Version 12 is cool with the ability to figure out chords from mp3 music. Does that work well? Thanks. Nate

You can copy/paste midi and audio in PT8.
Highlite waht you want to copy, use edit-copy and then edit - paste

I jumped from PT to PT12 (10) now build 12 and I've never been sorry, Nate. Two track windows - one classic (which I continue to use, and one which is more graphically developed.
Don't think twice, just upgrade. You'll be glad.

Thanks for the replies. I upgraded last night. I couldn't resist the temptation to play with the Audio Chord Wizard was a big reason. I might be getting into a new band and ACW could save a whole bunch of time if it works good. Already met with a little frustration though which I'm creating a new post about if I don't find similar posts already.

Hi, Nate -

Presuming that you meant you had some frustrations with Audio Chord Wizard, please realize that ACW is simply a tool to help you figure out the chord progression of songs recorded as audio. It's not perfect, but it does pretty well. A lot depends on the complexity of the music and the complexity of the chord progression. At a minimum, you're goint to get a pretty good idea of the root bass note for each chord; at it's best (and I've seen this on some songs), it nails the chords perfectly. But in the end, it's a tool to make the job easier, not a tool to do the job for you.

Hi John. Very well put and thanks for pointing that out. The problem I was having is that I was getting an error about ACW wasn't able to convert an audio file I was trying to import and I couldn't see what the problem was. A little error popup would come up and I had to click 'OK' to close it which kinda irritated me because far as I was concerned it was not 'OK' to tell me I had a problem and not give me a 'Help' button to click that would take me directly to a error description list in the Help files or a 'possible cause' description popup. Now I realize that is a lot of work for tech writers and stuff. But I went to the Help files and manual looking for a list of common errors and didn't find that. I used to do tech support work for a expensive engineering software company and I made a comment once to a software developer that I didn't understand why developers would create an error message in software and never take the time to put the message in a running list or spreadsheet of error messages along with brief descriptions of what causes the errors. That resulting list should be given to tech support people and included in the user manual. Might save a lot of support calls and work on over-burdened tech support people. I knew I wasn't making any points with the developer by saying that but I needed to make a point.
Anyway; getting back to ACW. It appears I was getting that error because I said yes to the popup 'TEMP_ACW_PT.WAV' when I was importing a mp3 file. When I chose 'No' it would open in ACW without a problem. Yet don't know why the 'Yes' causes the error but I'll read more in the manual and maybe it will explain it. I tried couple of songs so far and ACW did a pretty darn impressive job.

Yep - + 1 on help messages with no in-software explanation or on-website explanation or "contact support".

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
