Hello, I have been offline for a while, and I am having to address what I am going to do about my recording software of choice. That being Sonar Platinum. Has anyone here had any dealings at all with Bandlab or have any knowledge of what it is they actually do?

BandLab’s core enterprise is a social music creation platform for mobile devices. Chatter in online music groups is that they are a good candidate to take over Cakewalk. Last I heard, a version of Sonar was available for free download.

Cakewalk by Bandlab is indeed available and Sonar is no more. Cakewalk by Bandlab will install over your existing Sonar Platinum and keep all your settings etc. If you have plugins that work with the existing Sonar they should continue to work. If you did not have Sonar previously the new one does not come with all the plugins (e.g. Third party plugins such as Melodyne of Addictive Drums etc.). However it still looks pretty good. All my Pro Channel settings appear to be in place but I have yet to do more extensive testing.
Not that I want to start the 64bit discussion again Cakewalk for Bandlab is only available in 64bit if I understand correctly.
You register and download the Bandlab tool and it does the install.
Having said all that after the dumping by Gibson I spent time playing around with Reaper which handles some functions better than Sonar.

Cakewalk by Bandlab will install over your existing Sonar Platinum and keep all your settings etc. Actually, it really runs alongside your existing Sonar. It installs in its own folder separate from the Sonar folder, but references material that the previous Sonar installed and can use that material (plugins, add-ons, content, etc). But you can still run both programs separately. At least that's what happened on my computer.

Yes, it does load beside the existing Sonar but it did find my audio libraries which I keep on a non standard drive and most of my other settings. If you had it set up to keep files in non standard places for stuff such as templates you will need to re add those details via preferences. But that was the same with other Sonar upgrades over the years. All up it took about 10 minutes to get it back to the setup I'm used to.
However Cakewalk has almost lost me to Reaper where I find manipulating audio easier. I find getting a final mix easier in Reaper (once I got a reasonable FX chain setup).

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.
