One of the issues that has kept me from using Windows 7 has been the lateness of M-Audio to bring a driver for it that works with my 2496 PCI card. However, I accidentally logged in to Windows 7 last night, and instead of rebooting the computer, I could do what I wanted there. What I found was it was possible for me to use the 'Compatibility' feature in Windows 7, which is MUCH better than in Vista, to actually run the drivers for the M-Audio card as if it were in Vista.

Hence, my M-Audio card now works in Win7, and I will be moving most of my applications and files over to the Windows 7 drive. Of course, in about a month, the real thing will be out, and hopefully not too long after that when I have it installed on all of my computers as my primary OS.

So, if you have Windows 7, and don't have drivers, check out the Compatibility feature, you might find that you can run stuff anyway.

Thanks, Gary. I've been running Windows 7 RC 32-bit with great success for several months and I really like it. Some people have had concern over M-Audio drivers not being available, so your news is a relief.

Don’t forget,

You can get Win 7 on pre-order for half price. I think they still have that. Search pre-order win 7.

Harold,
I don't think that's available any more, that was a short term deal. However, since I am fortunate enough to have a connection to the Microsoft store, and was just told today that the four or five copies I want won't be a big deal, I'll be getting mine substantially cheaper than half price.

OK Gary,

I did get in on the pre-order. I think it was back in July. I kept my email order just in case. They don't charge your card untill they ship in Oct. I did not install Win 7 RC. They say If you install RC you will have to make a clean install when Win 7 comes out. If you don't install Win 7 RC it will install over Vista and I will save myself a lot of time re-installing everything.

Harold,
This is true. For me, even though I have 7RC on this computer, it's a secondary installation, and I have Vista as my primary install. I'll install 7 over that on this computer. As to the laptop and stuff, I'll just have to reinstall everything, but it'll be okay.

Such will be the case for the XP Netbook, as well, since you can't upgrade to 7 directly from XP.

Question----are there any compatibility issues with BIAB and Windows 7? Will the 2009.5 version of BIAB perform OK on Windows 7?

Larry,

Peter can answer that best but I don't think we will have any problems...

J. Larry,
I don't have any issues running 2009.5 on my laptop with Win7 RC, so I doubt very much if you will have any problems with it.

Mike,
Insert the drivers disk, right click on the setup, select the Compatibility option, and run them under VIsta or XP. See if that works.

Hey Gary,

Maybe I am asking the obvious, but I presume that was the 32-bit version of Windows 7?

Phil

Phil,
Sorry,
I've been busy of late, and not been here. Yes, there is a 32 bit version of Windows 7.

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
