But I forgot that this is the time of year my brain hurts trying to figure out the difference between the Pro, MegaPAK, UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, and which one I need

My advice is to go for the highest optioned pack that you can comfortably afford. Most upgrades are currently discounted.

But what is that. I was an everything pak user then they changed the name. I still had everything last year but do not know the name of it so what do I get this year to get everything that is new but not pay for stuff I already have?

If you only want to add all the new stuff to 2018 UltraPak to bring it up to 2019, then the PlusPak would be the most cost-effective way to do that. Try using Live Help to ask. I notice that it's operational at the moment.

I chatted with sales today and confirmed the only difference between UltraPak and UltraPak+ is the Video Tutorial PAK and the MIDI Songs & Lessons PAK. They also confirmed these two items have not changed. If you have them you definitely do NOT need UltraPak+. And when I bought them a couple of years ago I found even then they were out of date so even if you don't have them you don't need them! smile

Is there a video with the 64 bit gm vst out yet? I'd love to hear how it sounds.

You guys are so experienced with this software. Can you explain why it is a lot more expensive to upgrade from audiophil 2018 to audiophil 2019 than upgrading from ultrapak 2018 to ultrapak 2019? The only difference I can see between the 2 products is that the 200 new realtracks are in the wav-format.

I ask because I have Ultrapak and am considering buying the audiophil-pak, but if I have to pay that much more money (100$) every year for an upgrade I don't know if it is worth doing?

Will,

I have the Audiophile edition of the software. This version allows a user to install the equivalent of the UltraPak (with wma audio) on a computer's internal hard drive if needed. I have done just that and when I put songs together, I use the wav files on the USB drive.

I prefer the Audiophile edition.

The link below will take you to a thread that Matt Finley created a little while ago about Audiophile vs. Regular BIAB.

Will,

Some people use RealTracks to create professional quality studio recordings or audio productions. The WAV files in the Audiophile PAK are uncompressed, CD quality and contain all the musical data originally recorded from 20 to 20K hertz. The WMA files shipped with the UltraPlus, Mega and Pro PAKs are lossy which is a compressed file format. That means some of the original data has been stripped by the data compression program. As a comparison a 1 minute WMA file is almost 1/10th the size of the same 1 minute WAV file.

Hi Noel and Jim,

Yes, I understand how and why the Audiophile version is much better. It is just that I think 100 dollars is quite a bit more for upgrading just 200 tracks, than the Ultrapak-owners have to pay.

I think I will still go for the Audiophile though (in case I someday want to publish some music).

Thank you for answering my question.

Will,

The Audiophile edition is shopped on a 2 or 3 terrabyte USB drive. That would come into the pricing, also. The PlusPak upgrade is the download price.

Noel

Will,

When you upgrade from UltraPlus to Audiophile not only are the new-for-2019 RealTracks WAV files available, you also get all the prior RealTracks as WAV files.

Also, the RealTracks are duplicated as WMA and WAV files. Because all the files take up so much storage space, they are shipped on a larger hard drive than is used to store the UltraPlus PAK.

Audio production is a hobby for me so I don't need access to the WAV RealTracks. Those that have the Audiophile edition have stated they can hear the difference.

You may want to ask Sales but I believe the WAV file downloads normally lag WMA releases.

Will,

One other thing...

If you decide to purchase the Audiophile edition, and if you also decide to get the 49-Pak Bonus, you are best asking for the Audiophile version of the bonuspak to be added to the USB drive.

Noel

Will,
I hear you on that. We try to keep costs down, but audiophile comes on a 2TB hard drive, which is a big fixed cost for us. I realize that people may have little use for another 2TB hard drive, but if you do, you can repurpose your old Audiophile drive into a backup disk or something. Also, the new Audiophile are USB 3.0, faster than the ones from a few years ago (usb 2.0)

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
