What I want to do and what I *can* do may be two different things, but then again someone here may have a workable solution.

I'm in a band and not everyone can always show up for practice 100% of the time. I'd like to be able to use BIAB to "fill in" for the absent player(s) when needed. Usually that's no problem unless they have a solo or specific notes to play. In that case, I can record their bit and spooge it into the Audio track section and mute it if they show up later.

But what if more than one person fails to show up and I have more than one audio track I need to 'play along' with? I see that I can only use one added audio track in BIAB (I have just upgraded to 2019 Audiophile) - I haven't tried it but I considered even adding BIAB as a VST inside of itself but I didn't know if after doing so, the earth's poles would shift which would, of course, be the cause of something like a nuclear winter earthwide.

So to simplify my question: Is there a means to play more than one audio track in BIAB?

Sounds to me like you need to do all real tracks in BiaB and export them to a DAW.
You can have as many tracks as you need, and simply mute the ones you don't need.
Also, you can add any other audio you need.

Thanks Boyd for the suggestion, however that's not exactly what I was asking for. If it were just a matter of real tracks in BIAB I'd be home free. What I need is to be able to add more than one pre-recorded audio track (these would be for solos or other special instrumentation not available in BIAB - or if it is, it's not suitable) that would not be realtracks or generated music... it would be specific notes, which I know I could do in MIDI but I just don't have the time to transcribe them, nor would they sound the same.

I do use RealDrums and RealTracks for most alternatives to a live player - however sometimes it just doesn't provide what's needed. In those cases I may need more than one pre-recorded track.

I saw elsewhere on the forum an older post about using a VST to load additional audio tracks. That seems clumsy to me but might work if I could find the VST mentioned in the post.

Any other ideas?

What you want to do is very easy in a DAW and since you have RB you should do it there. Place each prerecorded instrument on a separate track. That is one track for the bass, one for a guitar, etc. Then either mute the ones that you don't need or solo the one you do need.

I hope this helps you.

Jeff, I'll get back to you after I check it out, but you may be able to do exactly what you want by using the BiaB VST as a plug-in in your DAW.
The BiaB VST would do its thing and you could add as many audio or midi tracks as you need.

Boyd why use the BiaB VSTi when just using the DAW is faster and better? What he wants is to use prerecorded tracks of his band's individual parts and not RTs so why not just drop them into the DAW?

I'm not trying to be a smart guy (PS version) just trying to clarify my position. That is unless I didn't interpret the initial post correctly. Or maybe you have a technique that I haven't have not learned but will when I order 2019.

See O.P.'s respose to my response above. O.P. apparently does want to use RTs & RDs.
Also see the video link below. I tried it out and so far it seems to work really well.

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
