(I have BiaB 2019 with latest update)

I have a weekly swing jam and lately we have had a cello player join us. The cello uses the bass clef and not the treble clef and I was wondering if there is a way for BiaB to do this conversion.

I have tried taking a song with a melody in the treble clef and by going into "options" changing the clef to a bass cleb. That just results in chords but no melody written.

Is there some other way this can be done?

Thanks
Claudia

Hi Claudia,

It can be done.

On the uppermost menu, there is an option called "Melody" (it's between Play and Soloist)... select this and then click on,

1. "Edit Melody Track | Transpose | Transpose 1 octave down"

If this gives a mix of treble and bass clef notes then,

2. Enter "Notation Mode" (#1 on image below)

3. Select "OPT" (#2)

4. Set the Clef Split to C5 (#3) -- this tells BIAB to change the location of where treble clef notes become bass clef notes.

Because the melody's pitch has been transposed, it will sound an octave lower when played by BIAB. If this is a problem, let me know.

Regards,
Noel

Hi Noel

Thanks for the tip, but that is not what I am looking for.

Unfortunately, while I was fiddling around within BiaB, I actually did what I was trying to do, but then I couldn't get back to having the songs come up in treble clef, so I had to do a factory reset. <sigh>

I am attaching an image of the final result. The song originally in the treble clef and then again written for those who read the bass clef (my cello player, for instance).

If you -- or anyone else who reads this -- knows how to do it, please respond. And if I figure out how I did it, I promise to put the answer here.

Well, of course after sending my last response, I figured out how to do it. (see attached image)

--> Choose a song (of course)
--> At the top bar, choose "Melody" drop-down
--> Select "Bass" instead of "Single Channel"
--> Go to Lead Sheet Window (alt-W)
--> Transpose down one octave (ctrl-alt-1)
Voila !

I have a PC, so I think ctrl=cmd and and alt=option in Apple-land )

I play with a cello player too, and I'm doing all the charts. This is VERY helpful, solved my problem nicely....thanks!

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.
