Hi All,

Long time BIB user - 2016 for Windows - WIN 10 PRO 1803.

I have both RealTracks and RealDrums on a separate 7200 RPM HD. I'm running low on drive space and am trying to clean up.

My "RealTracks" folder is 67.7 GB. Most of the internal files in the "RealTracks" sub-folders are of type "wma" and "bt1." I do not see any "wav" files.

(Of course, the "Loops" sub-folder has some "wav" files and "bt6" files.)

The "drums" folder is 46 GB. The sub-folders seem to have a combination of "wav" and corresponding "wma" files as well as "bt0" files. Can I compress or delete these "wav" file to free up some space?

Any other suggestions for freeing up some space in my "RealTracks" and "drums" folders on my HD?

Thanks,
Danny V.

Welcome to the forums sir!

I wouldn't recommend compressing or deleting those files if you will be using RealTracks or RealDrums at any point in the future.

You could just pick up an external USB HDD to copy those folders there. Another option would be to just get a larger internal drive for those. HDDs both internal and external are relatively low priced these days.

Danny, do you have the audiophile edition? If so, you have both a .WAV and .WMA file for each sound. The other file types are far smaller.

If you have audiophile you can remove all .WMA files but they occupy only about 1/11 the space of the .WAV files. Unless you are pretty good at file utilities it would be tedious to delete all. Read my sticky post in the Tips and Tricks Forum for much more detail.

If you don’t have the audiophile version, then you must have picked up a few .WAV files OR run the conversion utility at some point. You could delete them for real space savings because the audio quality is not different (converted) or perhaps not worth the added space. Again, read my post in Tips and Tricks.

And if you do what Steve suggests, tell us. There are a couple of places you need to change settings.

Hi Danny,

Realtracks and Realdrums take a lot of space. As far as I'm aware, all the files in those directories are needed.

In case it helps, it's possible to move Realtracks and Realdrums to a different drive -- they do not need to be under the \bb folder. If you want to do this, there are Realdrums and Realtracks path settings that can be adjusted in BIAB so that they point to the new location of the files. (USB drives can also be used for this.)

Regards,
Noel

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.
