I have recorded a MIDI solo to the soloist track as a HiQ Grand Piano and would like to experiment with patch changes, but no matter what I select, the MIDI patch does not change. It does show the patch change, but still plays as a Grand Piano no matter which patch I select. Any ideas?

Sforzando is the synth that is usually used for HiQ sounds. If this is the case, it will not work with patch changes. It's necessary to remove it so that the default synth can take over.
To clarify this...
1. Please click on the "Plugins" tab at the top of the Mixer.
2. Now, please follow the instructions at the link below to capture an image of your chordsheet and mixer (with the plugins tab showing). Once that is done, please post that image in the forum (again the instructions are at the link below). We'll be able to see what the issue might be (and, hopefully, confirm the above).
Please note that once you loaded the image using the Forum's 'File Manager', it will not show up in preview. The image only displays once the topic has been posted.
I think Noel is correct because I can duplicate your issue. I loaded a MIDI demo and then replaced the standard MIDI piano Patch on the piano track to a HiQ Grand Piano. This also loaded Sforzando synth onto the piano track. Then, no matter what I select, the MIDI patch does not change. It does show the patch change, but still plays as a Grand Piano no matter which patch I select.
To correct this.
Rt click on the track and choose - Select MIDI instrument (patch)
Select Hi-Q Midi Patch Plugin
Choose the first entry on the Choose List - No preset wanted (Remove/Clear any current preset)
Select OK to close windows with no Hi-Q selection
You should observe the track has returned to normal MIDI (yellow)
You can now experiment, load and audition different MIDI patch changes.
EDIT: You can also remove the Sforzando synth from the first slot from the Plug In window by selecting the pull down arrow on the far right of the slot box and select None for the synth.
According to this image, there is no HiQ Grand Piano present on the Soloist track. You mentioned this in your original post.
The Soloist in the image has a standard MIDI Eletric Piano sound present. This means that it should change easily enough. For reference, the BIAB "Soloist" track is the one that lies between the "Melody" and "Thru" tracks. It's called "Piano" on your mixer.
Regarding the image that you posted, is that what the chordsheet and mixer look like once you've generated the song and it's playing?
Fact is that the patch will not change no matter what I select. It will show the patch change, but the piano comes through every time, no matter whether it is a standard GM patch or a HiQ patch. Do I need to somehow regenerate the song after a patch change? I just tried to regenerate the song and it still won't change the patch sound.

When you recorded the sound, how did you do it? It's possible that the device wrote a sound patch to the MIDI data.
I've sent you a private message. Treat this message exactly the same as a thread and please upload the MGU file to it. I will check it out and get back to you. Upload the MGU file in EXACTLY the same way that you uploaded the image. The forum's file manager accepts BIAB files.
You can access the message by selecting "My Stuff" in the Forum's heading row.
As Noel has indicated you may have a sound patch, called a program change (PG). A program change tells MIDI what sound patch to use. If a PG is in your MIDI track it will always change the sound to the one selected in the PG.
So how do you get rid of the PG. You need to use a MIDI editor. In BiaB go to the notation mode and click on the track you want to inspect. You will see a box with the sound selected, see picture one, i.e bass. Right click on it and select the sound you want to here, see picture two, i.e. bright piano.
Good luck.

I tried that and when I right click, I get a drop down menu that does not reference a way to change the patch. If I then go over to the mixer to change the patch, the result is the same: the patch name changes but still plays as an Acoustic Piano.

I notice that you saved the song as an MGX file. This means that at some point in time, there was a multichannel midi file on the Soloist track. In this file, there is a program change event that assigns the Electric Grand Piano.
To remove this setting, I changed the Soloist track to its usual Single Channel mode. When I did that, I found that I could change the sound. Try that and see if it works for you, too.
The image below shows how to set the Soloist track to a single MIDI channel.
Just to reinforce this issue, I spent an hour or more stumped by it/ Had a couple of Hi-Q sounds in my song, and wanted to switch to RealTracks - I think the track showed in mixer as a real track, but still heard the Hi-Q sound. Finally saw this thread, so I went thru the intermediate step of going to the HiQ dialog and picking "no patch", which seemed to reset the track. Then was able to pick the Realtrack and actually hear it. Definitely a bug IMHO.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."
"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."
"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
