Hello,

I have a keyboard and know a few basic chords on it but would like to accompany myself doing some country songs.

I do know the most basic way to do this, a bass note on beat one followed by the chord, a fifth on beat 3 and chord again on beat four, but I want to add a few nice country licks to spice it up, not interested in doing the melody of song at the moment.

I have looked at a good number of tutorials on Youtube but nothing really stands out to me as the way to go.

I am a guitar player so really will spend most time on it, but want to spend a little more time on keyboard too.

Any help appreciated.

Listen to Floyd Cramer, Moon Mulligan, Mickey Gilley, Charlie Rich and country songs by Jerry Lee Lewis or Ray Charles.

Band-in-a-Box has several midi styles based on the playing of these entertainers. Load up some of the styles and follow along on the big keyboard.

Thanks a lot Jim, this seems to be the kind of thing I am looking for, so now to print out a few examples and get practicing.

I have auditioned a few of the styles and impressed, so now I will try to find the time to put them to use.

So far it seems more logical to learn this way from band in a box than Youtube or other courses,

Thanks again.

Which era country are you referring to? The above list is very applicable to classic country. Floyd Cramer would be my first recommendation. One of his signature ‘flavors’ is a grace 2nd degree of a scale note leading into the 3 note of the chord, scale etc. He does other grace notes as well. Being able to this is the essence of Floyd Cramer. It’s the equivalent of appropriate bending of notes In electric guitar playing and knowing how to apply proper sounding up/down strokes in strumming on acoustic rhythm guitar.

Mainly classical country Rocsktar_Not, to be honest I'm trying to get a country sound on the keyboards, maybe with a few simple licks that sounds good for backing songs, so not interested in adding the melody line as well.

Maybe spend 3 hours or so a week building up my proficiency on the keyboards that I have had lying around for a good number of years.

Would like to spend more time at it, but want to play and improve on the guitar as well.

Not enough time, I'm afraid at my age to get really good on any of these instruments.

I'm glad you asked this question.
Otherwise, I would not have found this.

Gonna learn it myself.

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
