Is it possible to have more than 255 bars on any one chord sheet. I'm practicing a progression which i wish to take through all twelve keys and it will run beyond 255 bars, but i cannot seem to insert any more beyond 255.

Is 255 the maximum? If so, could anyone suggest a work around please

255 measures is the maximum in BIAB.

This is perhaps the oldest unfulfilled Wishlist request.

You could load the song into RealBand and continue there, or MuseScore 3 to print it.

255 is the maximum in BIAB at this time.

I had thought the limit was because it used to be a 32bit program. Now that they added a 64bit EXE file to start the program, I was hoping it would go beyond that limit, but it did not happen. I do know that when you start the 64bit exe file, it still loads some 32 bit routines afterwards and perhaps that is what is keeping it at the 255 bar limit. PG Music will have to address that problem.

This problem has been hashed around and run through the dryer as long as I can remember and every year now it has been on a wish list to no avail.

There is always hope for the 2022 version.

Thanks for the quick replies. Being a total newbie with BIAB, I've only just realized there's another program called Realband - more instruction manual reading to do !

For now, I've halved the chord durations, this has given me the form i need. Hopefully the suggestions to BIAB will be heard, because its a lovely piece of software.

32-bit can express numbers over 2 billion.

The number 255 is actually an 8-bit problem. The largest number you can express in 8 bits is 255.

And 8 bits is a limitation not seen since Armstrong flew the Apollo missions in the 1960's, except...

I suspect it is actually a file format problem. Maybe the song files use an 8 bit byte for something like the bar count. It might be difficult to change this without making the files incompatible across versions of BIAB.

That's exactly it, I'm sure. I started teaching programming in the early 70s when designing a small recordsize was critical because storage space was limited and expensive. Then you become stuck with the limits imposed by that early design to retain backward compatibility.

Create 2 song forms..... do the first 6 progressions in song form 1 and repeat that for song form 2 using the remaining progression keys.

Export both and import them into the DAW of your choice. Most DAWs do not have this sort of bar limit. Insert the first one and then the second one lining the second up to immediately pick up where the first stops. Easy job in a DAW. Save it and you have exactly what you need to practice.

Edit.... you can also export the first one to a wav.... then simply change the key on the second and save yourself a lot of time. Export it to a different wav.... import into the DAW and finish up

You could always try jukebox mode. If you create a folder and save the song in it 12 times. Once in each key. You can load the folder in jukebox mode and play all the songs in one go.

Hey GH. It's Bub from the old Sonar forum. Wow! It blew my mind when I saw your name and avatar. It's been many years. Hope all is well. You should pop over to the new Coffee House and say hello. I just started posting there again. I'm here because I just got BiaB and ran in to a hiccup with my first tune. LOL! You know my luck with software. wink wink

Sorry to intrude on the thread but I just wanted to say hello to GH. We were regulars on another forum years ago.

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.
