Hi all,
anyone happy with the repeats and ending function in Biab?
I entered the chords last week from various songs into Biab and made my first experiences with the repeat and endings features using a da capo ending 1 and ending 2 brackets. Unfortunatelly I missed a bar near somewhere and needed to a a new bar in bracket 1 or 2 (I think in both cases I struggled with this use case). Anyway, I added the bar with the right click context menu which did not produce the expected results adding a bar right there an keeping the ending one and two structures in the expected order.
Anyone been lucky with adding or deleting bars when endings have been set before. I struggled for a while trying to get the intended result by simple and straight forward steps - to no avail. Finally I gave up, because making music was my intended leasure time goal.
Whta´s your experience - or is it a problem of this version only?
Cheers Stefan

being a simple soul i always 'unfold' complicated songs so i can see exactly what is going on where.
i do use the simple chorus and number of choruses settings on very simple songs but otherwise linear structure is so much easier to manage.
i've done it this way since i got BIAB on floppy discs.

Feeling the hazzle I am on my way to this conclusion. Yet, having been a conductor for some years I am happy with these structures. And it sounded promissing....
Thanks for your feedback Bob
Maybe there is again some druids trick to know.....
Cheers Stefan

The unfolded (linear) structure can be easier to handle, but you need to be aware of the 255 measure limitation in BIAB.

I have been using multiple endings since they first were introduced back in 2004 (I think). There are some quirks, I agree, but in general they work just fine. I do use the unfolded methodology - I am not even sure they can work with the BIAB chorus repeats, since you need to know, by actual bar number, where the endings start and end.

Hi Dave,
yes the chorus repeats added akwardness to the da capo endings 1+2. I therefore made the song to 1 chorus and as many bars I needed. But in the end I got frustrated, that I could not achieve with "normal" reasoning..... and stopped my efforts.
Probably you have to make sure, that everything is perfect before you configure the endings as not to need add or delete bars after having the repeats set. But who is free from errors.
Cheers Stefan

Exactly. The endings and DS are bar dependent, so if you add or delete a bar, you need to adjust the endings. This is done through the same dialog as you used to create it. You'll see a button at the bottom < Edit List >. This will take you to the list of repeats etc (you can have more than one set of repeats). Select the one you want and click <edit>. Make the change and click <make repeat>. Then <close>
Remember this process is non-destructive to your original song, so you can make as many changes as necessary. If you change the underlying song I usually find it is often easier the delete list entries and start again.
Watch out for the check box that says <Generate (insert) new bars. Most of the time this should be UNCHECKED

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!
If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.
A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."
"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."
"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
