Synth Demo This is just a short demo that shows, I hope, that electronic dance music can be generated in Band-in-a-Box. If you are looking for a melody or a chord progression don't look here. Also note that is way out of my comfort zone!BiaB Style - _Hush Hop.sty - Hush Hop Minimal Hip Hop Tempo - 100 BPM Bass - Synthmaster - preset - BT Funk Screamer Drums - Drumsynth 500 - preset - Electro Drummer Piano - Synthmaster One - preset - Arp MultiSaw Guitar - Wave's Codex Synth - preset - Gridex Strings - Synthmaster - preset - Lead Electrify AZ The only effect was heavy compression on the master bus. Note that the tracks are verbatim from BiaB. The only thing I did was to move the guitar part further down the track instead of being in the first few measures. Feel free to say what you please! This is not my kind of "music?".
PS - This took a very long 1.5 hour from start to finish.

Not my go-to music either, that was fun. Nice-sounding instruments, and you got your creative juices going. Maybe add a drop. Good job

Mario I'm not sure that this is the type of comment that you were seeking but here goes.......... IMO.......... Folk, Americana, Country, Rock and Jazz are predominantly singer-songwriter genres that biab excels at. "Electronic" (broad term) is mainly loop and sample based where "songs" are assembled and it is here that biab is falling behind. Write / Assemble. I enjoy both and hope for more contemporary sounding RT's from biab going forward. cheers Gary.

Early Depeche Mode for certain.
It reatins some of the graininess of the era - well done you & BIAB.

Mario,
A nice departure. Though would have been nice if the piece changed up a bit as it continued on.
I really like the opening bass sound - made me check the SynthPlayer libraries that I have - and it isn't included (which is a shame, because I've been "looking" for that sound to use in newer stuff).
Cool experimentation. Nice mix.

My point here was that MIDI loops might be a better choice than audio loops. It would save on disk space and also allow the user to choose the synth sound they want. Like I said there are a ton of free synth sounds available. I would make the MIDI loops 2-8 bars in length, much like the audio loops. One could drop them in BiaB and/or their DAW, this would work great in RealBand, then select a sound. YMMV

fj I tried changing it up as well as adding a lead line. I just couldn't come up with something fast, i.e. it is not a genre that I am well versed. Synthmaster and Synthmaster One are a great synths to have in your arsenal. I have not purchased another synth since I purchased them. They do have a free player: https://www.kv331audio.com/synthmasterplayer.aspxThanx for listening and commenting.

My point here was that MIDI loops might be a better choice than audio loops. Indeed. Before those electronic audio loops became audio, they were MIDI signals flying in some musician's studio. Even the most "human" aspects (e.g., manual pitch bend) were all MIDI before they became sound. You might conceivably wind up with an electronic RealTrack where the musician is using a virtual instrument you have on your own system! MIDI, but not audio, gives you the same control(s) the original musician had.

Too bad I can't praise your sense of melody in this case, but it is an interesting demo, nice use of BIAB possibilities, sounds like a good verse for a dance song, just add a pumping melodic chorus or a spoken story Reminds me of the band Blancmange, they are still around and make this kind of hypnotic electronic music. Well, it never mattered to me whether BiaB (or anyone else for that matter) could generate dance music, because the waltz and jitterbug are good enough. But I would NEVER pass up a MarioD offering, and I'm glad I didn't. You have the talent to make anything interesting.

An interesting experiment, MarioD. It's good to see people working with some of the lesser used sounds in BIAB, and you've created something there that reminds me of the type of electronic music which was popular and in the UK charts during the early 80's by the likes of Depeche Mode, OMD, Gary Numan, New Order, Human League, etc. It's not exactly my favourite music either, but it's nevertheless impressive and reminiscence of many an intro to pop songs of that era.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!
If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.
A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."
"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."
"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
