I worked up a song, everything seemed to be okay. I saved it after it played perfectly. I tried both freezing all the tracks, and not freezing them. After I do something else, when I try to load the song, it starts to generate the real tracks, then gives me an access violation error (the numbers change.) I'm using BIAB 2010, Ultrapluspak, running off the supplied HD. I'm running WinXP, SP3, 2 gig ram, my C drive has a good amount of space available. I tried turning off the fast generation of realtracks, but that didn't help. I also tried return to factory settings and rebooting my machine.

The tune has classic realtracks (I've tried two different ones, _JSTM_B, Modern Jazz Swing Quartet and _LAZYJAZ, Slow Jazz with acoustic bass and piano.) The tempo for the tune is set at 120. I've also added a trumpet solo real track, RTRP004, Older swing trumpet at 140.

I've re-built this tune a couple of times, with exactly the same results. Any suggestions/ideas? Thank you.

I forgot to mention that I am running BIAB 2010 build 292.

Same thing happens to me. What I did was unfreeze all of the tracks, save the tune again, reopen and click play. It works fine for me after those steps. Of course the tracks do not load as fast as when frozen as they re load everytime now but at least I can use the song this way.

Hopefully the next issue I had does not come next for you like it did me.

Edited portion: PS: Just curious did you have an electric guitar realtrack loaded, as these seem to be the problem for me?

Good Luck,

No joy. In fact, I'm now getting the error on more tunes that used to work fine. (I don't think I have an electric guitar real track, either.) So, now what?

Good luck to you, too.

So, I tried installing 2010 in a new directory on my main hard drive; that didn't help. Then I tried installing 2010 on a laptop that I had never used for BIAB, that runs Vista. Had the same problems. 2009.5 plays the files perfectly, once I reinstalled and ran that from the HD. So, until we can figure this out, I'm back to 2009.5 without all the cool new features.

I wonder what percentage of BIAB 2010 users have problems like that reported above versus those that don't? I guess only those with problems report such. I hold my breath every time I start the program. So far, so good on Vista Home Premium. I'm afraid to tamper with anything in the program----afraid something would get started that couldn't be solved.

I am having a similar issue with a demo song that i modified last night. I froze all of the the tracks and the access violation error occurs when I try to play it again. I unfroze the tracks and saved it but still the same error.

I am having other crashes as well that I am working with PG Tech to correct so that may be the root of the problem.

Well, now every song that I save and load back up causes the access violation error. They play fine when composing them but will not play if loaded again. These are projects that contain Real Tracks. Songs with MIDI only run fine.

Keebo,

If this was me, I be resetting to factory settings. Are you using ASIO or MME for your audio driver?

Hi.Bui

I had just the same experience. Even before freezing and unfreezing the tracks.
I got a lot of Access Violation in version 2010 292 build.
Running on a HP Pavillion 9500 with Windows 7.

Yeasterday it came up on every song i tried to play. Tried to restart the pc + +.

Then I remembered a other tread where I think it was Mac said something about uncheck something in the preferences menu.
I found the thread and this helped me out!

1. Open 'Opt. menu and Preferences...'

2. Click / Open the 'RealTracks' button.

3. Uncheck the 'Speed up generation of realtracks'

I've tried all of those things, and still no luck. I'm back to 2009.5 until we can get this resolved.

This has been happening to me as well. If I'm lucky, I can unfreeze the tracks, then regenerate them, then it seems to work. However, I noticed that if I'm using a Soloist RealTrack, it automatically freezes the solo upon saving (whether I've chosen to freeze the track or not), which then results in an 'Access Violation' when I load the song subsequently...

Peter:
I have a song that I am sending. I "think" the problem may be the soloist. When I just tried going back to a version prior to adding the soloist, the problem was not there. I just created a new song with exactly the same results--I can load the version without the soloist and it works, but with the soloist I get the access violation. (The soloist is the odler trumpet swing at 140.)

Thank you...I hope you can help!!

and by the way...Happy 2010!

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
