Tonight, our band is playing at the Akron Civic Center. I have been seeing concerts there since I started driving in 1967. Playing there has been on my bucket list for a long time. Tonight I get to check that box. It's a short set opening act gig, but it counts!!

Who else has had that kind of "bucket list" level gig?

Maybe not in that league but...

The highlight of my gigging career was when I was sixteen and our band was invited to play at the annual dance for the student nurses from the local hospital.

It's all been downhill since then.

Tonight's little corner of the stage.

And a look at the theater.

Of course, lil' B was right there with me.

The bucket list.

I've had a few bucket list gigs.

Opening concerts for stars like The Four Season, The Association, Harold Melvin's Blue Notes and others while they had number one records on Billboard.

Being part of the Motown Revue in Cobo Hall.

Playing in the Miami Convention Center in a Muscular Dystrophy Telethon right before the Dave Brubeck Quartet. After the gig, Paul Desmond was kind enough to say encouraging words to this then 17-year-old kid.

Playing in a Jazz band with a guitarist who taught jazz at the University of Miami and have giants of the jazz industry sit in with us.

Being filmed and featured on MTV back in the late 1980s while playing on a cruise ship.

Gigging in a nudist camp. I actually did this for a few years, and it's not as sexy as one would imagine. On the other hand, it's something that many people have a curiosity about.

Almost every gig is special, but some are more special than others.

Of that list my dream would have been Cobo Hall. I attended events next door in Cobo Arena but was never in the hall side. I haven't been to Detroit since 2001 but remember how well they rebuilt things downtown. Comerica Park, and soon after Ford Field (which I have only seen pictures of), are beautiful. One of my friends is a metallurgist and one of her customers is Ford, so once a year they invite her to a game where she sits in a loge with a bunch of Ford executives and their families.

If only it wasn't in That State Up North I'd drive up just to go sightseeing. 3 hours each way though...

Miami though... no interest.

Great list of dream gigs, man!

I haven't played Cobo Hall either, though I did play in some pretty cool clubs in Detroit & Chicago
Cubby Bear comes to mind, back when Smashing Pumpkins were doing the same, and The Metro, Riviera, etc.

oh, And Grand Ole Opry .. played there a couple times

My littlest brother conducted at Carnegie, which was a big milestone for him

The coolest gig I ever did in Detroit was an NAACP convention back in the late 70's or early 80's. Some of the best musicians I've ever played with (all local), and I couldn't name a single one of them right now, but I was honored to be invited.
In Detroit, I'd rather play Royal Oak Music Theater or Harpo's as opposed to Cobo ..

Fun to look back on though

If only the end of the gig didn't include reaching into the back hatch of my Renegade to adjust something so it wouldn't slide around and slamming the lid on the right side of my head. The very corner where it comes to a point hit me. It bled a fair amount and I am thankful that the venue was 4 miles from my house. Today I have a bump the size of a marble and a horrible headache. Slept most of the day. I probably have a minor grade concussion but I'll be fine tomorrow. This isn't close to the last good concussion I had in 2013 after a bad car accident. THAT was awful because it included nausea every time I moved my head.

Still a bucket list gig! Concussion and all!

Eddie, Cobo hall is really an exhibit space. The Arena is where all the acts played. The hall is where conventions like the Society of Automotive engineers would exhibit.

Maybe you are thinking of Ford Auditorium which is adjacent. Honestly that theatre in your photos looks way cool compared to Ford Auditorium.

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
