This is my first song with 2010. It is more of a project to help me learn the system. This was done in about 4 hours so far.

I am using a Dire 140 gtr RT and a slide RT that I've dirtied up with a Cakewalk amp sim. Note that the solos are not always right. I will be trying to use Melodyne to fix these in the days to come.

Editing being done in Sonar 8.5. I will post each update as I have the time. Hope you're enjoying this product as much as I am.

That's a great first effort! You're really getting the hang of this program. I see you are way above the average bovine

Sounds pretty good to me right now, the backing music hangs together real well. Don't worry about the count-in until you are done. Looking forward to hearing it as it progresses. Maybe add a little B3 organ in there. The slide sounds a little out of character for this tune -- at first, then it starts to grow on me. So I am undecided on the slide part.

I just got the upgrade to Sonar Studio 8.5 from Home Studio 6xl (that $99 special), but I haven't installed it yet.

A big Moo from the Austrian Alps

Good production (I know its not finnished).
For my personal taste: I would shorten the mesures of each chord by the half. Its only 3 chords anyway - so when each one plays 4 bars at some times, that seems long to me. Also the vocals have very long rest due to that.

Why not make the Chorus or Bridge with something like: C | C/B | Am | G |
A minor chord once I while can be very refreshing
Also supersimple, but maybe a little more interesting than the C | F | C | G | stuff all the time.

The style you`ve chosen sounds great to me. I didn`t hear any bad solo notes exept for the 4th or 3rd last bar (when the fade starts).

good job,
Sandra

Thanks for the comments!

Sandra- Absolutely. This is actually less of a "song" than it is a work project for me to learn how to use RT's, and edit them in my different softwares. I've never worked in RB, so it's a great intro to that as well.

I will prolly do a real song once I feel I know my way around this program. The lengthy instrumentals will give me a chance to introduce some variations of the played solos using Melodyne.

As it stands now, it is very repetitive, with no bridge.

I also wanted to use more guitar sounds to share with my collaborator so we can judge the realism of the rhythm track...which actually sounds pretty good.

I liked the groove. Nice work!

For future reference, try running the Harmonica through the same Cakewalk amp simulator. The machine with SONAR on it blew up so I can't do it again and show you, but when I did it after I first got 2009 it sounded great. Gave it some of that Chicago grit.

Looking forward to your next offering.

R.

P.S.: Does anyone know of a good free standalone amp sim plugin I can download and use?

Here's what I have done:

The real track Dire 140 soloist generated a solo that was a bit too busy in parts. Kinda like Knopfler hopped up. The soloist is also at 140 bpm, while the song is 120 bpm.

So I took the solo into Melodyne and changed the formant of the solo (the formant is the male/female gender tone). I brought it up to varying degrees on different notes, giving the guitar a little more sparkle to adjust the difference in the bpm.

I then found the busiest parts of the solo and cut the superfluous notes. Next I lenthened a few notes to make the soloist sound a little more real.

Finally, I ran the guitar through the TL64 Tube Amp in Sonar 8.5, along with some EQ and reverb to make the solo licks pop a bit more out of the mix.

I did nothing to the slide.

I think the Dire soloist sounds a bit more polished now.

I listened to both and have to say I'm impressed. Seems there are endless possibilities with realtracks and melodyne.

You should post this on a music site.

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
