I'm using the Scaler plugin in Studio One 5 Pro. I like the sound of the chord shown below but have no clue how to enter it into BIAB

The chord is... Emaj11(#5)/Ab

Thanks!

You could try the chord builder tool to see if there is the combination.

E, G#, C, A with Ab in bass

Am6/Ab and you say you like the sound of that? grin

Yes, because there is no keyboard in the BIAB chord builder
Therefore, you cannot be sure that what you entered is the same as SCALER.
But I found a BIG PIANO in BIAB
However, it does not directly realize my idea.
Unless you install 2 more program files. I don't understand why BIAB officials didn't design a keyboard for the chord builder soon.

I used to leave a message here for this reason.
Some of the advice I have been given here is to study music theory.
They all seem to be afraid of BIAB improving function.

I read E, G#, C, A with Ab in bass as...

AbMaj7#5 or AmMaj7/G# or even Am/G#

It would be interesting to know the chord's context. A common progression that uses this chord is...

Am-Am/G#-Am/G-Am/F#-Dm/F-Dm

i.e. Am-AMaj7-Am7-Am6-Dm/F-Dm

Of course, that explains the recurring emphasis on theory: fear of progress.

And a D# and an F#, no?

That's a lot of candles to blow out.

Are you reminding everyone that you don't use BIAB, you don't use a computer, you directly use pen and paper to make music, does it better reflect your understanding of music knowledge?

Do you have any outstanding works?

Did you understand that this is the BIAB forum.
The core value of everything discussed here is to make BIAB better.

An alternative argument might be that BiaB or scalar 2 should handle more spellings of chords.

Some of what you see here relates to how one can, could or would interpret a chord. It is quite normal for a composer or musician to write a chord one way and for someone else to choose to interpret the same chord differently. The style of text varies, too. Some will use the delta symbol, some will use Maj, the interpretation of dim is a little flexible; whether or not to use parentheses around #5 or b9 or whatever. BiaB has a published list of chords it understands.

Where one accepts inversion there are different ways to write the same chord, e.g. Bdim == Ddim == Dmb5 == Fdim == Abdim == G#dim == ....

Most(*) chordal instruments can play chords in inversions and many players will chose to do so for any of several reasons ... voice-leading, easier fingering, prefer the sound, whatever.

BiaB does not handle all chords that are possible, at least not with RealTracks, because the original recordings do not have them. IMHO, whilst an on-screen keyboard would certainly be welcome, that is not the main issue here. I suspect most of us already have a "big keyboard" ... inside our heads. I also have, even here on my office computer, a Launchkey25.

Consider this ... You demand a big on-screen keyboard so that you can see these chords. Many musicians will be deciding in real time exactly what these chords mean, the notes to play for them, how they will get to the next chord and what notes they'll play in that, and to the chords beyond that, whether to substitute a chord, what scales/notes they can play with this chord progression in their solo, and the rhythms they will play. Live; in real time; in front of an audience.

(*)I first wrote "all", but it would at least be tricky on a harmonica or autoharp and there may very well be others.

thanks for the reply.
All I can think of is that BIAB has a keyboard like SCALER.
That way you can determine if the chords are the same based on the keys they contain.
What surprises me the most is that BIAB has a BIG PIANO in it, but it doesn't help the chord builder to display chord notes.

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
