The Bootcamp video seems to be using Partial Regeneration for the same "pick a solo" function that I use Multi-Riff for.

To me, it's easier to use, specially when using the floating (ALT+F8) window. I's also more flexible, since you can use that floating window in any view that allows selection (for example, Audio View)

Another advantage is that if you edit a track from the audio view, the track won't become an "Artist track" which is also great.

ALT+F8 is great.
I believe the only important item we are missing is the riff "history" from modal F8. If that is transplanted to Alt-F8 then not sure who would want to use older "Multiriff" workflow and why would we need both?

If it is possible, I think that is the way to go and just retire old multiriff modal approach.

Both fair points, but I'm still on the fence whether it's worth upgrading or waiting another year to catch up.

Ryan,
It seems your hesitation is based on (upgrading) program itself, not the content?

The upgrade for a program by itself from 2022 is only $49 (A price of a dinner for two at very mediocre chain eatery)
Crossgrades to Pro version from earlier years are also priced very reasonable.

I was pleasantly surprised that PGmusic did not raise their prices considering pretty high inflation that had been happening in the past year. I am sure that their cost of operation went up.

So by upgrading, you are not only getting a better software, but supporting a smaller company that is making a unique product.

Just my opinion.

P.S. To me a Non-modal, Alt+F8 (new approach) for partial regeneration is way better than previous, as you can navigate and do other tasks. Saves time and makes overall process much friendlier.

Amen ! it's about the best thing I've used in Biab ever as it's so easy in all the control it gives right there in one magical little box. For $49 it's well worth it. Just needs history, Drums and UserTracks added.
When you first use it you get a bit apprehensive about clicking on something outside it's window because you are so use to that bad windows chord sound "BANG" ! so you are a little scared at first but you get use to it and know it's safe to do so smile Pavlov's dog = PG Jail Dialogs

Yeah just trying to save some money this month (as you say, inflation, etc) on stuff I don't really need right now. I have plenty of content already (2020 Omnipack and '21, '22 PlusPak upgrades and bonus packs and style packs available pre-December.

Upgrading software and content this year would set me back around $300. For the songs I've made so far I have no idea how many are using new content vs older content. I tend to build or customise my own styles so paying for more is a balance between extra content vs extra time previewing the list.

So yeah I'm just on the fence as to upgrading anyway and not really making use of what's new or waiting a year and catching up assuming I don't really miss out on anything in the long run. This is just an occasional hobby for me, might use it once every month or so. And if you've seen the prices of PC graphics cards lately I could use the extra savings haha.

At least we're not paying subscriptions just to use the software so have the option to stick with what we've got and upgrade when we can.

[edit] what the heck purchased it anyway. smile Gave the Xtra /Xpro styles a miss this time and stuck with PlusPak and 49Pak

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
