Can't find any posts on this subject. My posts to PGannon get bounced and I don't even swear.

Is anyone using Garritan Jazz [JABB] with biab? The Garritan stuff is not gm ready. But it shouldn't be too difficult since most of us probably only use 10 or so different instruments unless you are doing classical or movie sound. Coupla basses same for keys and drums and strings and pads. Anybody.

Hey Mike I'm interested of course. What does your performance multi cost? Being a guitar player some of the capabilities you describe are new to me. Particularly the scripting and some of the articulation terms.

Mike I just saw the rest of the thread. I clicked on your link right away without reading all of it. I don't understand about having the DXi box checked in one of the posts. I thought the idea was to have the K2 player as the soft synth. If you route it thru there do you have to mute every DXi instrument. I must be missisn something.

Ron,

BIAB can host the VST version (recommended over the DXI version) of the K2player. That is configured by checking the "use VST/DXi check box". BIAB only supports one soft synth at a time so I'm not sure what you mean by muting every DXI instrument. The post was probably referring to a work around to limit the multiple loading of instruments. when initially setting up the K2Player don't load instruments, just the player. After exiting out of the "MIDI Audio Driver" dialog box click the DXI button and the load your instruments or multi in the K2 Player.

The current version of the Phrase Modeled Performance Multi is free although donations are welcome

Can anyone help me to get Garritan J&BB and BIAB 2009 to work together. The instructions in PGMusic's tutorial (http://www.pgmusic.com/tutorial_garritan.htm) say:

"In the DirectX Window, in the top pull-down menu, click 'Add VSTi Plugin'. Navigate to the \Program Files\Garritan Jazz Big Band\VSTPlugins folder, and select the Garritan JazzVST.dll file."

When I navigate to the Garritan Jazz Big Band folder, there is no VST Plugins folder, and I cannot find the file garritan jazzvst.dll anywhere.

I have tried installing GJBB on two separate computers, with no success.

There are several K2.dll in a VSTPlugins folder in the Native Instruments folder, but I don't know which one to use. So far neither PG Music or Garritan tech support have been particularly helpful.

Hi Lenny,

All of your VSTi dll’s should be in one folder. That folder is usually under C:\program files\Steinberg\VST Pluggins; at least that is where all of mine are. I installed J&BB a long time ago but I think the above folder is the default folder that the dll was automatically placed in.

I hope this helps.

Mario, thnx for the reply. Gee, I don't have a folder named Steinberg after I loaded Jazz & Big Band. As I said earlier, the only VSTiPlugins folder I have is in the Native Instruments folder which was created after I installed J&BB. That folder has 3 files in it:

KontactPlayer2.dll
KontactPlayer2_8out.dll
KontactPlayer2_16out.dll

I tried loading a couple of those, and the Kontact Player comes up, but when I load some instruments and go back to BIAB, I get no sound at all.

Lenny, in Kontaktplayer2.dll do you see Garritan J&BB?

In Kontaktplayer did you go to file/audio midi setup and set up your soundcard and midi devices?

Can you load Kontakplayer2 in standalone mode from the desktop via start/all programs/kontaktplayer? Or by start/all programs/ Garritan J&BB? If so after you have set up your audio and midi can you hear anything in the standalone mode?

I don’t use Garritan J&BB in BiaB but I do use it in Sonar with no problems.

I hope this helped.

Hi

Here`s how i do it,in the opt menu click on the top one midi/audio driver setup
click on the right hand side box= use VST/DXisynth,when you get the box
vst/directx instruments/plugins(select synth in list)you click on the top box where you have a dot in the edit spot
go to the bottom of the list and see add vst synth you find the kontact 2 dll and load it into the list you
then click this and it will appearin he top box of the 4 boxes, when you click this the kontact 2 will come up in the window
you then set up each instrument starting with the Bass on channel 2 then piano on channel 3
guitar on channel 7 and so on each time you choose a instrument you get a new box up and you put in the
channel number this carries on till you have all the instruments loaded

hope you can understand this just ask if you need something clarfied,
since posting this i added all the rest of the instruments and found that the last two instruments would not play properly the bass, piano, guitar and trombone where fine but when i added the trumpet and the clarinet it was too much for BIAB to play them all at once and the last two instruments where distorted, that was using real drums, this was why i stopped using JB&BB maybe this is just my computer but i am using 2gb of memory

Mario and Jazzband,

Thanks a lot for the advice. I'm beginning to make some progress. I have one further question at this point. Jazzband, you said:

Quote:

"you then set up each instrument starting with the Bass on channel 2 then piano on channel 3
guitar on channel 7 and so on each time you choose a instrument you get a new box up and you put in the channel number this carries on till you have all the instruments loaded"

When the instrument panel loads up, which of the various controls is used to set up the channel. One of the drop downs I found on the panel gives me several options for channels, e.g., omni, channel from host, and other options that say "not loaded" (I think). Am I in the right drop down, or should I be looking elsewhere?

Hi

when you pick the bass instrument,on the lefthand side near the top just under the Bass name it reads Output which i leave as 1 and then just under this is midi channel which has to be the same as the BIAB channel ie Bass is Channel 2 and this is done on all the BIAB channels Bass 2,piano 3,Drums are left with real drums, guitar 7,strings 6,Melody 4, soloist 8, and i never tried the thru channel so i don`t know if that works, and the other thing i did use the volume control on the right hand side

as i said when i got to the last 2, melody and soloist my computer protested and would not play them properly but up to then it sounded excellent, maybe my computer

regards Dave Hoskins

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
