Using MIDI styles only, how to force BIAB v2011 Build 314 to play a piano 8-beat pattern on bars #2 and #3 or on bars #4 and #5 of a song, instead of two instances of 4-beat patterns ? Placed on bars #1 and #2 or on bars #3 and #4, a 8-beat pattern is well played and that is OK. Test can be done with the style clouds.sty for ex.

If there is no chord in bar 3, bar 2 should play an 8 pattern. So if your song is:

C| |F| |C|F|C

Bars 1/2 and 3/4 should play 8 beat patterns, 5/6 will play 4

No, the chords of the song are following :
|C|F| |G|...
A 2-bar pattern should be played on bar#2, on F chord in the above example.

I was using those chords as an example.

I tested your progression using CLOUDS and ran into the same issue. It seems like if the 8 beat pattern starts on bars 1 or 3 (odd), it plays correctly. However, on bars 2 or 4 (even) it does not. I tried some other styles and had the same problem. It must be something in the algorithm.

From the FAQs:

...A 2 bar pattern gets played if there is only 1 chord at the beginning of 2 bars. A 1 beat pattern is chosen if there are more than 2 chords close together in a given bar...

Yes, that is intentional. Since it starts counting from the last part marker, you could put a part marker on bar 2, and then it should give the desired result.

Peter,

Thanks for your help.
I'm not sure to understand the musical reality of the rule. That means a 2-bar pattern can't be played on bars# 2, 4, etc , since it need to start just after a part marker.
Adding a part marker did the trick, but it adds a fill pattern for the bar just before the part marker, and in most casess, the fill pattern is not wanted...
In my progression |C|F| |G7|, I don't need to get a fill during the 1st bar (C chord)...The way to go on should be to be able to put a part marker and to decide to activate or not the fill...That would a 'pseudo part marker'.

I know that I and others have requested this before. It would be nice to be able to just right click on the part marker and choose fill or not. Obviously, there should be a user settable default setting, as well.

You might want to add your voice to the wish list.

Yes, I was knowing your request about part markers/fills, but not for the same reasons. Anyway, this new feature would be a must for our songs arrangements in BIAB.

What if you freeze the drums before you put in the extra part markers?

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
