Another thread prompts me to ask this question. I once wrote a country waltz tune. I never set anything up as far as time signature, just selected a style that was a 3/4 style, called something that contained the shorthand for "country waltz" (_CNTYWLZxxxxx maybe?). Doing that automatically set the time structure as I started entering the chord progression. What I ran into was a question of "splitting" the measures. In a 4/4 song, you have the first half and second half of a measure, and using the comma you can put in 2 chords per half measure. Since there is no 1/2 measure in 3/4 tempo, how does the notation work to change if I want a measure to be G D G. Would it be as simple as G,D,G and then move to the next measure? Where would the G and the commas go though? I got it to work out fine somehow, as the song is complete, but I would really like to know how I did it and if I did it right. It was kind of shooting darts with a blindfold and somehow hitting the board.

In 3/4 the last beat gets ignored. So...
G D G F
... the F would get ignored. Enter the first half of bar: "G , D ENTER" ...then second half of bar: "G ENTER"

Okay so if I have it right, when working in 3/4, beats 1 and 2 are the first "half" of the measure and beat 3 is the second "half"?
Makes sense as to why it worked even though I didn't know why.
