(the following applies to BBRemote (for Iphone/Android), but also applies to Band-in-a-Box for iPhone/Android)

BBRemote is the application for iPhone and Android that functions as a remote control, so that you can control your desktop version of Windows BIAB from the iPhone, iPad or Android, allowing you to, for example, stay seated at the piano, or at the music stand, without needing to be near the PC.

It normally works in a "home" envoirnment, where you have a home network, router and WiFi. In this case, it all works seemlessly, as the iPhone finds the desktop version.

But what if you don't have a router, or Internet available. Can you still hook up the remote to work with BB Desktop... the answer is YES, and the details are below.

===========================
You can connect your iPhone to your PC, wirelessly, and fully use the BBREmote and BB for iPhone app, even if you don't have Internet, and don't have a router. Prior to posting this, I tried it out and it works great.

To be clear, we are talking about a situation where all you have is a PC, and an iPhone. No internet, no wifi, no cable, no router or network available. Just you and the iPhone, on a desert island <G>.

IMPORTANT: This example is applicable only in situations where you DON'T have Wifi, LAN available. If you do have LAN, and WiFI, skip this whole thing, as there'd be no point in setting up an ad-hoc.

Aside from people who don't have a router or Interet, this would be a useful application if you were at a gig, and wanted to use BB Remote to load your songs from and generally control your PC, so that you could see the chords as they play, and not be looking at a big PC. Or maybe you want to look at the notebook screen, and the guitar player wants to look at the iPad screen for chords.

To do this, you need to set up an ad-hoc network, find the IP of your PC, and type that IP into the BB Remote program. I'll post info on how to do that in the Tips-n-Tricks section. There's lots available on the Internet about setting up ad-hoc networks, and the procedure differs on Windows XP, Vista, and Windows 7.

I'll post the details on how to create an ad-hoc network, and hook it up to BBRemote, in the next message in this thread...

Here is information on:
1. setting up an ad-hoc network connection (on Windows 7)
2. finding out the IP of your PC that is assigned due to the ad-hoc e.g. 169.254.65.215
3. Running BBRemote, and connecting to the ad-hoc network by typing in the IP

Note: There are all kinds of articles on the internet, and videos on youtube describing this, so if you need more help, or are using XP or Vista, check them out.

Note: You need to have a Windows PC that has a wireless adapater (most notebooks would have that. Desktop PC's usually don't have that).

====== Using Windows 7 ========================

1. Shut down Band-in-a-Box Server if running. (right click on the note icon)
2. Windows Start button
3. type ad-hoc
4. run the “setup an ad-hoc network” ( a wizard guuides you through, DON’T USE ANY ENCRYPTION), say to remember the network, give it any name e.g. MyAdHoc111
5. Connect the PC to the adhoc instead of your usual wifi
6. WAIT 1 MINUTE FOR AN IP TO BE ASSIGNED.....
7. via Dos CMD, do a ipconfig /all and get the AutoConfiguration ipv4 address, something like 169.254.65.215
8 Run Band-in-a-Box Server.exe
9. On iPhone, run BB Remote or BB for iPhone. choose File-Server, and type in 169.254.65.215

============
Next time you do this, it is much easier , and connect within a few seconds.
1. Click on system tray icon that displays your network connections. Select available networks, you will see MyAdHoc111 (or whatever you called it) – choose that
6. WAIT 1 MINUTE FOR AN IP TO BE ASSIGNED..... the waiting is important, as it seems that it takes time for the IP to get assigned.
7. via Dos CMD, do a ipconfig /all and get the AutoConfiguration ipv4 address, something like 169.254.65.215
Note that the IP is listed on a line like this:
Wireless LAN Adapter
AutoConfiguration IPv4 Address: 169.254.65.215

8 Run Band-in-a-Box Server.exe
9. On iPhone, run BB Remote or BB for iPhone. choose File-Server, and type in 169.254.65.215 if that’s what it is (if it is the same, then it is available as a past choice). IF IT DOESN'T CONNECT THE FIRST FEW TIMES, WAIT 1 MINUTE AND TRY AGAIN. Ad-Hoc connections seem to take awhile to initially connect, then work fine.

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
