Hello one and all.
How do I enter chord triplets in BIAB? I used to know how to do it but it's been ages since I've done it and I can't remember how (I have to look at my shirt to remember what I had for breakfast!).
I know you have to use two bars to do it: one in 3/4 time with the tempo reduced and another bar in 2/4 time with the tempo reset to 100% to complete the 4 beats. What's the % tempo reduction? I do remember that there were two possibilities of tempo reduction. One contributor suggested a particular % that he thought felt more natural.
Thanks for all the help.
Robert

I am not sure I agree with your suggestions, especially if you are talking quarter note triplets, but I would need to know more about what you want to do. Take a look at this FAQ to start: http://www.pgmusic.com/techfaq28.htm#25

I am trying to enter chords to sound, time-wise, like quarter note triplets. For example - C for 2 beats then G-F#-F as triplets and resolving to E in the next bar. The chords are entered as hits, G..,F#.. F.. Robert

Oh, OK - I understand now. I haven't seen that.
I wonder if the instructions are in the Tips and Tricks Forum? They should be, if they aren't.

Robert,
This is how it works:
The triplet bar (one bar of ¾) should equal the tempo of half a bar of 4/4. In other words divide the BPM figure of the tune (e.g. 140 by 2 = 70). This should be the total “length” of the ¾ bar. Since there are 3 quarter notes to be played in the same time span two quarter notes would take, you will have to speed up the ¾ bar tempo. If you want to retain the liberty of changing the tempo of the song in question, you should change the tempo of the ¾ bar not in absolute figures, but in percentages.
The ¾ bar should be increased by 1/3 (= 33 %).
While in the “Chord sheet window” right click on the bar in question, select “Bar Settings” (F5), change “# beats this bar” to 3, in “Tempo change to” or “% change in tempo” enter the result of the above calculation. Also select an appropriate waltz style. NB: For the remainder of this bar, which will become the next bar if the triplet is in the first half of the original 4/4 bar (or the other way around if the triplet occurs in the second half of the original 4/4 bar) change the “# beats this bar” to two and change both the style and tempo back to the original style and tempo. In the bar after this change the “# beats this bar” to four.
If I am correct this will only work with MIDI styles, so e.g. no real drums.
I have use this method in a.o. my arrangement of “ It’s a Blue World”, where it sounds great to have a triplet in the first half of bar 6.
Good luck! Tonnie

Robert,
Real Drums work, at least if you enter an absolute figure in "Tempo change to"!!!!!!

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!
If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.
A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."
"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."
"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
