Its just struck me. There is no tech reason why Band in a box could not have vocal tracks recorded by good session vocals! Granted you would not be able to radically change the chords (but you could use subs) . There are many pop, country and rock standards in BIAB why not add vocals? This woud be great for members of the band that are learning a song, or comping skills.

Copyright? Some songs are out of copyright. I am no lawyer, but surely if we did have to pay extra for vocals, this would be something many would do. Perhaps a release as a seperate pilot project?

And what would the value of that be when you already have the original recording? Just curious as to your train of thought.

Firstly, there might not be a single 'original recording', there may be many. Also its possible to do a lot of things in BIAB trhat you cant do with a recording - substitute chords for example, change styles etc.One thing I would like to do is take out the piano so I can play along to the vocal - comping.

I have been thinking about this more,... I once had a demo of melodyne, it was Frank Sinatra singing a solo. The demo showed the score, and then the notes were altered. I was very suprised to see Frank sing a new note. It actualy sounded very authentic. Obviously the technique could not stretch the pitch too far, but a perfect fifth seemed acheivable.

This tech is now licenced and Daw's likew Cubase sport it. I have seen harmony vocals created this way, and its effective. Basically as long as the file is monophonic, a lot is feasible.

Presently Real Tracks are Acid like loops, and very good they are too. But there seems room to me to have some sort of pitch shifting algorithm too. Even without the pitch shifting, we could still have some vocal loops for RT standards, using 'acid loop' type RT's.

So, again why not vocal RTS?

A human voice is the ultiate instrument and dramaticaly deepens the 'connection' of the music. I can even think of the last time a song without a vocal was in the charts here in the UK!

I think it will be a killer addition. It would take BIAB away from other 'accompaniment software by another coutry mile.

IMO

This is not really a vocal track in the sense of the original post, but I think it could have great potential.

I have a vocal expansion board for my Roland JV-1060. I am looking forward to putting a song together with those sounds. Lot of jazz things like "doo's", and all kinds of choirs. Many are very high quality. These simple syllable sounds could add a whole new dimension to a style pattern.

OK I am still thinking about vocals. The more I consider it the more I think why not? It would be very useful to have some out of copyright jazz standards sung by a good session singer. OK so if you had a track with vocals, you might not want to mess with it tooo much but you could reharm to a degree, and possible cut and past choruses.

There seems room fro this idea to me, and it would be a decent feature ot be able to add a vocal on even just some songs - IMO.

I would love to play Piano when someone is singing Summertime.

Hi ZeroZero.........

Why dont you find a real human singer and play-practice with him or her? That would be better for your musicianship anyway........

its easy to forget that this is just a machine, a computer........that will always be limited in comparison to the real thing......

All the Best,

Obviously a real singer (AKA a real band) is better. If I could find one that will be up at 3am when I am, go home when I want them too, can sing in a variety of styles, will endlessly repeat if I want them too, never engaged inm band politics and would not make my wife jealous when she spent hours in my studio etc.. you get my point..

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
