Got this idea in Bible Study, learning about Joshua's right-hand man, Caleb, leading his people to their apportioned land, populated with the Anakim (giants).

Maybe others have had this composing problem...I liked the melody line, chorus, chords, etc, but when trying to lay in lyrics to tell the story, there just aren't enough notes/phrases in the verse section to paint a complete picture. It could have used a longer melodic structure in the verse in order to tell a complete story for someone who isn't familiar with it, but after a couple of "surgeries" to try to insert some new lines/different melodies, I decided that liked what I originally had too much to change it, so I opted for kind of cryptic story-telling, figuring that it would make sense to anyone who knows the basic details.
Interested in comments on this dilemma.

To your dilemma: When you got the lyrics first, I see no problem in finding the right tune.
If you use the melodist to find your tune first that's the wrong way. It makes BIAB the master and you're only the slave. And I think that this is not the way it should be.

Thanks Guenther..I'm a big believer in melody first, then lyrics. I usually architect with chord movement first in BIAB, then write the melody over at the piano, then start to work on lyrics and arrangement. Sometimes the lyric comes first, but not often for me. I've never used melody creation in BIAB..may have to try that someday. Thanks for the feedback.

This is good. Nice vibe you captured. Well written lyrics.

I too get boxed in by my the chords I put up on BIAB (I forget what they call that screen). I usually write my lyrics around the chord structure, so I know what you mean about the limits. I rarely try to expand once it's done. As you found, it is too much work.

Interesting tune. I like it. That bass line is cool. I need to vary my productions. I generally go start to finish using all the instruments.

First, I think you captured the anxiety of pending combat very well with the vocal effects and amp effects on that cool bass line. I like the contrast between the verse and chorus as well. I think you a good job with the lyrics.

As for composition tips, I can only offer my humble opinion. I find the most difficult part of songwriting to be exactly what your pointing out, matching the rhythm of the lyric to the music while preserve the "integrity" of both. I've spent hours and worn erasers to a nub on this problem. For me, this where you can really hear how good a songwriter is. There are mega-hits and classic pop/rock standards that violate or ignore this aspect and it just tells me a lot about songwriter.

All I can really say is to try every tip you get; something might work for you (and me).

It does not sound like you were boxed in on this one! This is perfect in every way IMHO. Your vox and lyrics were great and your backing tracks were spot on. I loved that orchestra hit!
