Hello,
I've BIAB UltraPlusPak 2012.5.
I want to make a backing track for playing guitar along. So, I'm looking for the most approaching styles for:
- Like a Rolling Stone (Highway 61 version)
- Ballad for a thin man (Highway 61 too)
- Like a Rolling Stone (Rolling Stones version in "Stripped")
- Electric Neil Young songs (Words, Ordinary people, No hidden path...)
- Acoustic Neil Young songs (Cowgirl in the sand...)
It will help me a lot for training.
Thanks for all.

You need to give a specific song if you want advice on a style. Not a group.

Hello,
I'm sorry, but the titles and versions are precised in this post.
For example, Dylan: Like a Rolling Stone (Highway 61 version), the same song by the Rolling Stones in the record "Stripped" or Neil Young: Words, Ordinary people, No hidden path, Cowgirl in the sand, The Needle and the Damage Done, Heart of Gold...
I understand it would be too complex to have a function like "I want to arrange my song in the spirit of XXX in the record ZZZ" but it would be fantastic!
Thanks.

nearly every style lists songs for which the style might work; but it's not comprehensive and usually only one or two possible songs are listed. Nevertheless, when I want to make a backing track of a cover song, the first thing I do is search the styles for that song name. (there is a search button in the style listbox... and there is a separate button to continue the search if the first hit did not meet your needs). Did you try that already?

This would be a good addition to Pwarren's WIKI: people could create and add to a list of styles that work with various songs. It would be particularly nice if the list were sortable so users could find the song without searching through thousands of entries.

update:
I added a section to the WIKI so people can add to an ever growing list of styles that work with songs. If people contribute, this can be a valuable resource as it gains substance

Great idea for the wiki Pat, thanks. I'll have a look and see if I can contribute some style ideas.

BTW I did get your pm and replied.

Excellent Idea and addition to Mr. Warren's site.

I bookmarked for future reference.

Allanah's song list may be good starting point even if midi.

Thanks to you for you editing work, and also Mr. Warren for his site.

Thanks for the link to Alisdair's BIAB links page. I sent him an email asking him to add the WIKI to his list.

Pat,

Got my interest piqued a bit and went to my files.
Loaded some number of them experimenting and quite a few
suggest RT styles. BBN files have nice Napolean Sheds'''''''''
arrangement.

Glad you like the link

Hello,
In this specific purpose, it's for training with guitar and keyboards. So, I want the most approaching sound of the records mentioned: Highway 61 for Dylan, Harvest for Neil Youg and "Stripped" for the Stones.
I have thousands of styles but no one satisfying, regarding the album's ambiance.
Sometimes, I write my own music and I play it like I've written, but I ask me "what Pink Floyd (or others) would did with my chords?".
Thay would be a useful trick in BIAB for helping to find more ideas and progress.
New styles like "in the spirit of ...".
It could also used as a starting point to go further with your own ideas.
We are not all great composers (and players).
Best regards.
François

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
