Hi. Thanks to those who helped with my last question.

Here's my new one: I have a piece that needs better sounds.
Can I use Real Band sounds to improve the piece I composed
at the link below?

Thanks!

After release of 3 CD's and a record contract, I can tell you most assuredly that BIAB REAL instruments will make your piece sound much more lifelike and professional. After you get that package in either the WMA or the WAV format, the quality of your music is then only up to you, your arrangement, your chords.

I've been a customer for 3 years and other than studio issues the acoustic recordings occasionally have, the quality has been exceptional on most of the tracks.

Hope this helps,
Good luck to you,

Thanks, Wayne ...

The voices in that piece were from an older model midi keyboard. I have the BIAB Everything Pak now. Are there sounds I can try from my BIAB program now? I'm just starting to learn BIAB and RB.

Thanks!

Ok, let's see; for sure, the BIB Real Tracks can improve just about any tune you come up with, provided that the style used for the composition is supported by one or more of the Real Tracks existing in the packages so far, however, as far as the melody lines or specific written solos, the sound is going to depend on the synth, vst or other sampling software being used. BIB by itself have no sound whatsoever, just general midi "instruments". The last version of BIB comes bundled with Sampletank player and a generous list of sounds that would be an unquestionable improvement over the "windows soft synth" that comes with just about any computer with a sound card.
Experiment and have fu8n!

It sounds like you are confusing Real Band (essentially a sequencer) with Real TRACKS (Live sound Rhythm and soloists.) I am assuming you mean Real TRACKS. Real TRACKS with make your rhythm section sound better, but any instruments explicitly playing melody (or melodic harmony) parts will still rely on MIDI. SampleTank is better than most, but I still find the Ketron SD2/SD4 to be the most impressive of the hardware Sound Modules for realistic MIDI melodies.

Thanks and yes, bit of a prob getting them straight...

Is Sample Tank software sounds like .wav ? I want to get rid of my large keyboard and replace it with better sounds (when not using BIAB sounds).

I have to add that the sound module is not sufficient in achieving professionnal credible MIDI melodies. You'll have to work on the way to use the selected instrument (playing an acoustic piano is not the same as playing a clarinet), to work on the velocity, on vibrato, on the expression, on the phrasing,...

Your question does not have a simple answer. First off, Realband does not have any sounds of its own. What happened when you made the posted song is that Real Band sent instructions to your synth and the synth played what you hear.

There are a couple way to get better sounds. Real Tracks are very high quality, but you cannot tell then what notes to play. Sampletank can be made to replace the keyboard synth you have now. It will play the notes you tell it to. It has very good sounds, but it is more high-maintenance.

First, go to Band in a Box and play with the "Hi-Q" sounds. This is the fastest way to get Sampletank going. Then work out how to invoke and control Sampletnk directly. Go to your account at IK Multimedia and download all the free Sampletank sounds. Once you get all this running, you will understand how to get Sampletank to give you better sounds and play the notes you want.

THEN get Sampletank set up and running in RealBand.

Check out the upgrades to sampletank at IK Multimedia. They have a 'medium' and 'full size' set of sounds that you can add for very good prices.

There is certainly a learning curve to all this. It is worth it. Dont hesitate to post your questions in this forum.

Again, it helps to understand the terminology:

.WAV is an uncompressed storage format for audio files. A .WAV file can be any sound.

Were you perhaps asking if the quality of SampleTank sounds was as good as the quality of the RealTracks in BIAB?

Did you use BiaB or Realband to create the posted song?

Maybe this will clarify what I mean. I used an old midi keyboard
(Alesis Quadrasynth)and a very old version of Cakewalk to edit
these. What I want are better sounds. I have the midi files.

That's what we needed, you have midi files and want them to sound better. That's all you had to say. Real Band and Biab are just programs with no sounds. Real Tracks are audio files, not midi.

For better midi sounds you need a better midi synth. Prices go from free (your computer's wavetable sounds) to $40 for the Forte Dxi to about $400 for the Ketron SD2 module, to whatever it costs you to get the expansion sounds for Sampletank to several thousand for top of the line studio stuff like the new Roland Integra or a big name keyboard or the big and expensive software synths like Halion or Kontakt. You get what you pay for, more money = better sound.

For midi it's all about your synth.

Since your looking for better sound sources and your title indicates Orchestral sounds you may want to look at these:

1-Garritan Personal Orchestra - $150 - http://www.garritan.com/index.php?option='com_content&view='article&id='154

2-Garritan Instant Orchestra - $150 - http://www.garritan.com/index.php?option='com_content&view='article&id='154

(Check PGMusic, I think they sell these)

3-Miroslav Philharmonik - $150 - http://www.ikmultimedia.com/products/philharmonik/

From here you can pay up to $1000 for orchestral sounds.

I don’t know what your budget is but these are some of the best in this price range. Rule of thumb for midi sounds, the more you pay the better the sound. But to extract exceptional sounds you have to get into midi. This includes all midi instruments.

I hope this helps and good luck.

I just posted a selfie and all of the responses were get well soon!

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.
