OK all, I'm not looking for that Cher sound. I'm looking for generic pitch correction. I just upgraded PT2012 to PT2013 thinking it had a "new" feature for this but I'm not so sure.
I've recorded an instrumental played pretty well, but there are a few notes here and there than I can tell are a few cents off.
I read about another piece of software where where you could literally drag your "note" (in audio) to a named note if it was a little off. I not looking for that total convenience (though it would be nice!), but is there a way to do this sort of automatically?
Software should be able to "know" that I'm only 3-5 cents away from a known pitch and simply correct it, no?
I see there's some auto harmony thing that involves the TC Helicon but it's asking for a MIDI track to correct to. What the heck? I had a stupid idea to run the "audio to midi" feature to generate the midi track for me (gah!) and then trying it but I'm not so sure that's a good thing to try...
Any ideas? (I really don't want to spend another $70 on Melodyne / Celemony or any other third part but maybe someday I'll have to...)
Thanks in advance,
John

Google GSnap. It's a free plugin that does what you want.

Good advice from John Silvertone.
The only thing I would add is that it's worth taking time to experiment with the numerous controls. It can produce some great results, but it takes time to get to know how to do it.

I use Adobe Audition for quick pitch correction (though infrequently; it makes the music not natural).
Melodyne Editor is indeed able to drag a note's pitch. Fascinating software. Takes a ton of computer power though.
I've had many audio engineers tell me no one can hear pitch changes less than 6 cents. I've demonstrated to them that I can, but it's pretty subtle when you are making that small an adjustment; not worth the effort (and again, not natural).

You might consider splitting the track between the part(s) that need correction, and everything else. That way, you can just have the pitch correction plugin on the parts you want fixed. I use Reaper, which is relatively inexpensive and had a pitch-correcting plugin called ReaTune. You can see it in action here. In the Manual Correction you can specify exactly what you want corrected - very much like what you're describing. One nice thing about Reaper is that other than a short nag screen, none of the features are disabled in demo mode. I believe Melodyne has a time-limited demo.

So far as I know.....Melodyne Editor is not the cheapest but it is IMHO hands down the best out there for the home studio market.
I have Editor and it is totally transparent. I do not want a listener to be able to listen and say...YUP, that was fixed. I want it to be totally transparent and ME fits that requirement.
Not only can you literally drag a note to a pitch, but you can also move it by cents sharp or flat because being on pitch is not always desired. You can also change the vibrato and drift and inflection in a note. I have even fixed notes on instruments as well as voice. When a singer hits the note almost and then fizzes off and then pushes it too hard to get back on.... ME can fix that so it sounds like one perfect take. I don't think the freebie stuff can do that, but I don't have the freebie stuff to know for sure. I just would not expect such high end functionality to be in something free.
I have used this tool on practically every lead vocal done in my studio by me and by others.
You can find my music at: www.herbhartley.comAdd nothing that adds nothing to the music. You can make excuses or you can make progress but not both. The magic you are looking for is in the work you are avoiding.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!
If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.
A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."
"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."
"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
