I have BIAB 2012. I seem to recall that an earlier version allowed you to plug your guitar into your soundcard and play along with your BIAB file. Is this still possible? I've looked around through the documentation but can't find anything on this topic.

Plugging your guitar directly into a sound card isn't likely. Plugging it into a something that has a 'Line Out' (and connecting that to the sound card) is much more likely. Most amps, effects boxes, etc. will have this.
I don't think any earlier versions could have 'enabled' this since it is a function of the sound card, not the software. BiaB uses your installed soundcard, if your soundcard supports it, then BiaB will .. but it isn't a BiaB feature/function to my knowledge.
Make your sound your own! .. I do not work here, but the benefits are still awesome

Skip, just a guess:
From the earlier days when many here had a SoundBlaster card, the SoundBlaster came with a mixer that would record "What You Hear". You could plug into the input of the mixer (and Bob just gave you the better way to do that) and 'play along' with BIAB, hearing both yourself and the program. Bob is also correct that doing this is a function of your soundcard and its software, not BIAB.
However, BIAB still has vestiges of the SoundBlaster days in the form of an icon that will bring up the old mixer, and mentions of AWE. Could that be what you are remembering?

I have a POD2 plugged into my SAffire Interface. (Focusrite)
As soon as the computer boots, I can play through the interface. So in BB or RB or Sonar, I simply play the song in the application and play along with my guitar.
In Sonar I click on record and life is good.

Those are good points. It's all about the signal path.
In SONAR, you can route the signal anywhere you want for monitoring. In many audio interfaces, direct monitoring is possible, as opposed to monitoring through the computer (which will introduce latency, often in objectionable amounts).

yeah, I never recommend using the computer factory sound card. Those things are bad for latency.
Since the computer I have only uses the Focusrite, as soon as the computer boots and initializes the interface, I can play through it. None of the music programs even need to be open.

I'm just curious. Would folks want to plug into a sound card so that they can listen with a head set and not chase the cat up the drapes or bother the neighbors?
I don't have a cat...my dog seems to like da Blues and the neighbors aren't too close so I just plug into my Boogie amp and rip it.

Jim well, in the computer/interface option, you have the amp modeling hardware such as the POD series of gear and quite a few folks like to use the software solution with Acme Gar Gig, Amplitube and more. There are some fairly good tone options available in there, and while volume is generally less, you can crank the monitors as far up as you want. I too have a Boogie setting within reach if I want to get louder.... but 98% of the time I have the DAW turned on and the POD is always connected.

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.
Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.
Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!
Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.
Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.
