Thanks for commenting Herb. Regarding the vocal doubles/harmony - They were an afterthought actually suggested by my wife and have not made the cut in the revised mix. Not much work went into it and they were done in a single take. I agree with you that they were poorly done.

I like the song a lot. As for "At one point, the mix was so muddy you could not hear anything clearly." Try removing everything on the Master bus "Main"

Then Main>Post>Mastering>Simple Pressure Preset.

Try the Post not the insert on the Main follow the instructions above from the little triangle ^ not the +. Use the On/Off button to see the results.

This is a very basic way to get a stock clean light compressed sound to see how things are coming along.

I pretty much stopped using the stock plug presets and mostly use third party plugs.

RichMac, Tommyad and DA. Thanks for stopping by a commenting. I have found you members on the forum to be very supportive and helpful and I truly appreciate it.

DA, thanks for the mixing recommendations. I will give that a try. I've found that my mixes were quite a bit better when I used the stand alone Tascam dp-24. Vocals were much warmer and easier to control. I've committed to switching over to a computer DAW but have not been very satisfied with the overall results so far but such is the learning curve I guess. There may be too many options with the computer DAW and then to go beyond into the third party stuff has me thinking I may need to hire an expert. I already spend more time on YouTube than I do actually developing songs and recording them.

You all ready have exactly what I'm running right down to the 22vsl and OS, so enough said. Listen you want warm vocals you got to take some time, hike up your skirt, and let it rip in the digital world. What's your hurry, we have eternity to get it right.

"I may need to hire an expert."

Here's my free advice, get some q tips and go to town, you'd be surprised where all that sour-cream went on those baked potatoes:)

Just saying!

Thanks for the advice DA. Ironically, q-tips was what I used to clean the heads of my old analog reel to reel to clean the gunk off them to keep recordings from being muddy sounding. LOL, the world just keeps going round and round. I appreciate your comments.

Regards,

Charlie

Oh I forgot to mention that the vsl is a little tricky to work correctly.

The mixer knob on the lower right has 2 functions one for input and the other for out to mixer, speakers etc.

Try not to get to caught up with the vsl's internal mixer and effects, there fun at first then you want to bypass like the plague. Also the presets when starting a new project take the liberty of using all kinds of cow pie's to get a simple and clean signal.

Work it manual and you will learn the in's and out's of the software very fast and you'll never forget from the trial and error's

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
